Need muzzle device removal help

I need local gunsmith that can competently remove a stuck muzzle device on a sig MCX barrel. Any recommendations? I am thinking xcal is an option. Any others ?

xcal doesn't have a gunsmith anymore.

Xcal doesn't offer gunsmithing any more.  I've seen the range guys remove a muzzle device for a regular, but it was on a gun he just bought there and very much a favor.  Range guy said something like "I'll hit it with the torch and if it doesn't come off, not comfortable trying anything else"

Sterling Arsenal. They installed my tri-lug in my Sig MPK K. Decent job, just sometimes not communicative when projects complete.

These are known to be a pain in the ass. The easiest path is to email sig and request them to remove it.

Unfortunately this was a purchase off VAGT and the muzzle device was added by previous owner and looks like rocksett to hell.

Soak it in water for a couple days and try taking it off again

I think Comstock Armory said they like to use an ultrasonic cleaner to loosen Rocksett. Steam also might help instead of dunking it in hot water.

It’s a bit outside nova, but I love the guys at Fauquier pawn in warrenton. They’ve got good gunsmiths.

one of the rso's at xcal removed my mcx fh for me two months ago, but other comments here say they're not doing it anymore, doesn't hurt to ask. I had to fill out a form and it was a slow mid day, so they were able to do it right away

Heat gun and get a soaked rag and wrap it around the muzzle device. Re-soak rag as needed, careful about burning yourself. The steam should work its way into the threads and weaken the rocksett.

Pot of boiling water also works, just have to be ok with standing there holding your barrel there for a few minutes.

Assuming it is rocksett and not red loctite.

When I wanted to remove my MR762 muzzle I brought it Sterling Arsenal since they were within a reasonable distance and I wanted to try them out. Dropped off my MR762 and they had it done within a few days, but the barrel was all scratched up and the muzzle had alot of wear where the wrench would have been fitted. I spoke to the rep that handed me the rifle and he mentioned an apprentice had worked on my gun and had a hard time taking it off...

Yes, they removed the muzzle, but I would NOT recommend them for any type of gun smithing work if you care about your gun. I get that new people need training to learn the trade, but messing up the finish is not acceptable in my opinion, especially on a $4k rifle. First time and last time I will use them for any gun smithing work.

There are lots of posts about it - seems like heat gun + deep socket impact wrench does the trick?…

Yeah. I removed three other FH with impact wrench and deep socket, it works.
This muzzle device is not a factory sig FH unfortunately and all my efforts with heat, soaking to dissolve rocksett, kroil have been met with zero results. I need a smith with a proper barrel vise block for sig barrels to get this off.

If it’ll fit on a regular AR reaction rod/midwest upper receiver rod I could give it a shot. Im not a shop. Just a guy in ballston with a vice.

Have you tried the hot water for 30 minutes trick? If they used ceramic thread locker I believe hot water dissolves it…

Yes. Tried soak in hot water. Overnight soak. Boiling water. No luck. It’s on there good.

SEG is great with a decent turnaround depending on their queue, Sterling arsenal also great but typically longer lead times

UPDATE. Fauquier Pawn’s gunsmith took care of this quickly and with little hassle. They seem to know their shit and I will be a future customer based on this experience.

Had a similar issue. Boil water, put muzzle in it for a minute, and then use your wrench and it should come right off. t’s a common issue, especially on factory HKs, so may be a similar issue on your Sig.
