I feel like all the bikes co-ops are way downtown in manhattan or in Brooklyn. I see a lot of bikes around those neighborhoods and not that many bikes shops or a place like a community can help each other. I don’t if this is a bad idea or not. I don’t even know how to start this.

Are there any bus companies running between NYC and Philly that allow bikes? Like Amtrak has a bike ticket, but are there any bus companies that offer the same?

I just want to stick the bike in the underside luggage area.

Hi fellow cyclists! I wanted to introduce Cycling Without Age NYC (CWA NYC), an all volunteer-run nonprofit that gives free e-trishaw rides to seniors with limited mobility through partnered facilities, so seniors can get out and feel the wind in their hair.

My wife (29) and myself (30) will be visiting New York from september 26th until october 3rd.

We are fairly experienced city riders - we both commute everyday to work.

We would like to discover New York with bikes. We did à couple of years ago in LA where we ended up riding 40km a day. We consider bringing our locks and helmets and borrowing/renting semi-shit bikes for a couple of days.

Does it sound realistic to you?

Ive checked citibikes but im not sure its the best way for day-long endeavours!!

We’ve a local nonprofit bike club and have activated 2 Open Streets in Bay Ridge and Bath Beach. We hope to activate some more. Every street event we pair a bike repair cafe with children’s activities and tabling from local orgs and city agencies. If you’d like to volunteer, please DM. All volunteers will get merch like a bandana or shirt, food/drinks including unlimited cafe drinks (espressos, teas, etc) and tickets to any of our rides with food included.

Hey I recently picked up my first fixed gear bicycle and have really been enjoying it, I wanted to ask for any advice on ways to become more involved with the fixed gear scene in nyc or specifically brooklyn, any events, cafes, bars, social media accounts or anything else really?, thanks in advance

the problem is exactly what it sounds like. I got a new bike, but can't for the life of me figure out where to store it. I am completely unable to store it in my apartment, as my family is a family of 5 and a cat living in a 600 sq ft apartment, the layout of the house makes very little space for a bike considering much of it is hallways, and it's a sixth floor walkup. So storing it in the apartment is not an option. I looked into nearby parking lots, but all of them were charging ridiculous prices, about 125-150$ per month, and at that rate I could just buy the same bike after three months. I don't want to store it outside because of thievery, but now as I am significantly limited for options, am considering it. If I did, I would use a Litelok x1 mini along with a kryptonite mini 7, motorcycle cover, severely uglify the bike (as long as the bike works good I couldn't care less about it's looks), move it around every few days, and detach the saddle every time. My building refuses to offer any sort of bike storage, since it simply has no space for that. I am currently looking at trying to store it at nearby friends houses, or even going so far as to ask nearby deli's and such where I am friends with the employees and manager if they have any sort of storage I could use there. If I need to though, I will store it on the street, though in South Harlem I think it will get stolen in a matter of weeks. If I get really lucky, maybe months. Any ideas?

TLDR: I am trying to find a way to store my bike, as storage in my apartment or building is impossible, and are looking for suggestions or recommendations.

I angled it down as much as I could on my seat post and set it to Group Ride setting which is the lowest lumens. It still blinds me when I glance at it. The optilight that shines down at your feet is excellent though for safety so I want to keep it. I'm just worried about others behind me. Might cause road rage or something.

The Massapequa Park Bicycle Club will be holding its second annual Classic/Vintage Ride on September 27, 2026 in conjunction with the 2026 Tour of the Hamptons, starting in Southampton, NY. It will be a group ride at a relaxed pace over an easy to moderate 30-35 mile course.

A custom bike medal will be awarded to the first 25 registrants.

Individual and group starting photos will be emailed to all riders.

An optional informal pay-as-you-go post-ride lunch at a nearby eatery is in the works.

This is one of the very few organized vintage/classic rides on the East Coast. Take the old steed out of the stable, pump up the tires and join us for the fun!

Hi all, have two questions both coming from the same thing: for a while my kid wasn't really interested in learning how to bike, but now he is and is really determined.

He probably needs to practice gliding etc. at least a couple more times before he can put it all together. From there I want to sort of ramp him up slowly to keep his confidence up as he learns. I know a couple playgrounds/courts that are empty enough that they're good spots to learn initially, anyone have any recommendations on where to go from there? We're in the SE part of Bed-Stuy but have a car that I can toss his bike in.

I'm thinking maybe Jacob Riis, since the boardwalk is flat and straight but there'll be some obstacles to work on avoiding, would really appreciate any other suggestions in Brooklyn and Queens.

Also this means I need to get a bike so I can ride with him. I've done some Citibiking over the years but haven't had a bike of my own as an adult. I'm thinking probably a hybrid -- if I have it I'll probably use it a little bit for errands and general getting around Brooklyn, and then also I grew up doing an old railroad trail and would love to do that kind of thing with him.

I want to buy used and not spend much. Having poked around on Facebook Marketplace a bit to see what's out there, my goal is to drop around $200 (maybe slightly more, hopefully less) on something that in my ideal world wouldn't need work and would already have a water bottle cage and maybe even a rear rack. I'm just over 6'. Anyone have thoughts on what kind of bike I should be looking for? And am I better off sticking with Marketplace or waiting a couple weeks for the Jumble?

Hi all! I live in manhattan and am planning a weekend ride September 11-13 to Poughkeepsie or albany (depending on how ambitious I am).

Unfortunately with my walk up I can’t keep my bike in the city so wanted to know if any of you have a spare bike that I could rent? I would be happy to pay you the same rate that I’m seeing online but would prefer to rent from a bike enthusiast!

Any recs of good bike rentals would also be helpful! And if anyone is interested in joining lmk, I’ll be camping!
