Online/Virtual [3 June 2023, Free, Mod/Rule] Sales posts are NOT allowed here, selling your own event tickets or trying to get $ for tix = get banned. 🔨

Hi all, with summer just about here now in June 2023, I’m glad this subreddit’s “second wind” since mid-spring in April 2023 is working as intended for you all to discover fun events or promote events you’re affiliated with in New York City!

However there’s been a recent influx of users coming on this subreddit selling tickets to events to personally profit off it. Now the main focus of this subreddit is to promote events across New York City which is fine, but we won’t facilitate a platform to sell your tickets and gain some money off that. In other cases, it’s spam, and sometimes not worth the trouble on this subreddit.

If sales posts don’t belong on r/NYC or r/NewYorkCity, r/AvesNYC, or r/FoodNYC per their subreddit rules (or most other local NYC/borough subs), they certainly don’t belong here. So as a reminder & new-ish rule …

This subreddit is not a home to sell (or resell) your own tickets to events/concerts/etc in the city, same applies on buying someone else’s tickets, even ticket swaps here aren’t permitted. If you want to sell your own tickets to events in NYC, consider posting on r/NYList where general buying/selling posts belong, r/AvesNYC_Tix to buy/sell tickets for EDM/raves/dance events, on r/NYCConcerts, where buying/selling posts for concerts belong, there’s also r/BroadwayTickets to sell your Broadway or other performance tickets too. That way people can still be interested if so desired. Do your own due diligence as always buying goods of the internet.

Moderation’s been fairly lax given it’s a chill sub, but there won’t be any hesitancy to ban people for that. One and only opportunity you’d do so, you’ll be permanently banned.

Have a wonderful summer, and stay golden folks! ☀️

TL-DR: Promoting your events here is fine, and the primary goal of this subreddit. Selling your own individual tickets to events are not permitted here, don’t use this subreddit to get rich, and the last thing moderators want to do is play whack-a-mole with scammers if a sale goes south. Other communities exist for this to sell tickets for concerts, sporting events, raves/music, etc. Break this rule only once = a permanent ban.

Edit (7/17/2025): Added r/BroadwayTickets as a place where selling Broadway/performances are allowed.

Edit (9/3/2025): Amended Rule 2/this post to include that ticket swaps aren’t allowed here either.

Manhattan Live cat-themed variety show and podcast taping in NYC 9/28 - thought cat lovers and podast listeners on this sub might be into it!

Post image
Upvotes

There's a quirky indie podcast called 6 Degrees of Cats that's doing a live show at Caveat (21A Clinton St) on Monday Sept 28th, 9:30-10:30pm. It's part of the Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival happening in NYC, the UK and Australia.

Basically it's an hour of cat trivia, games, and comedy with host Amanda on a panel with some solid guests:

  • Mohanad Elshieky (you might know him from Conan, Colbert, or he writes for Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me on NPR)
  • Gemma Smith (runs Catbaret, NYC's cat-themed burlesque/cabaret thing, also hosts Tails & Tassels podcast)

The vibe seems to be "cats the comedians of the animal kingdom". Audience gets pulled into some of the games too.

A few practical notes:

  • 21+ show, doors open a bit before 9:30
  • seating's limited so don't show up last minute expecting a spot
  • first 50 people in the door get a free sticker
  • no actual cats will be there, just the concept of cats

Cost is $24.80 (includes all fees), link's in the comments since reddit doesn't love links in posts. Figured this crowd might appreciate a night out that's basically "trivia night but make it feline."

Manhattan Sept 4th | Flatiron barcrawl!!

Hey Everyone!

We're heading back to Manhattan this Friday! 🌃

The last time we did Manhattan, people really enjoyed the spots, so we're running it back with a new route , and this one is all about games, drinks, meeting new people, and ending the night on the dance floor.

Us:

We're a growing group of people mostly in our 20s–30s who get together every Friday to explore NYC nightlife, meet new people, make friends, and have a good time.

We get plenty of people who come alone, so don't worry if you don't know anyone!

You:

Looking to meet some new people, grab some drinks, play some games, and enjoy a Friday night in Manhattan.

Come solo or bring friends, everyone's welcome!

Where:

This week we're hitting Flatiron/Chelsea!

🎱 Society Billiards + Bar — 9 PM

📍 10 E 21st St, New York, NY 10010

We're starting at Society with pool, darts, drinks, TVs, and plenty of space to hang out and meet everyone. We'll be here for a while so people have time to arrive, grab a drink, and get some games going.

⬇️

🏓 SPIN Flatiron — 10:15

📍 48 E 23rd St, New York, NY 10010

Next we're heading to SPIN for ping pong, drinks, music, and a more energetic atmosphere. Grab a paddle and challenge somebody you just met!

⬇️

💃 Slate — ~11:30 PM+

📍 54 W 21st St, New York, NY 10010

Then we're finishing the night at Slate with DJs, dancing, pool, ping pong, electronic darts, arcade games, foosball, and more.

Stay for a drink, stay for the games, or stay until they kick us out. 😂

When:

🌙 9 PM — Friday, September 4th

We go out every Friday!

TLDR:

🎱 Society Billiards → 🏓 SPIN → 💃 Slate

🎱 Pool & darts

🏓 Ping pong

🍻 Drinks

🎮 Games

💃 Dancing

🌃 Three Manhattan spots

🎟️ Free to join!

Come solo or bring a friend. A lot of people show up without knowing anyone that's kind of the whole point

Manhattan Free upcoming events in NYC with complimentary food and/or drinks

I put together a list of upcoming free events across NYC where free food or drinks will be provided.

A few examples:

I’m tracking the complete list at On the House. You can filter events by date, location, food, coffee/tea, alcoholic drinks, and whether host approval is required. All events are free but some do require host approval so keep that in mind.

I built the site because everyone likes free food! Ideally, it shouldn't be the sole reason of going to an event but it can make an event more appealing and worthwhile. I manually review each listing to check that both admission and the listed refreshments are free. I also update the list daily.

The site is free and doesn’t use affiliate links. I don't make any money off this and don't require any personal data to use. If you know of an event I missed—or have feedback—you can submit it through the site. Cheers!

Brooklyn How to Live & Make Art in These F**ked-Up Times

Hey NYC!

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by everything going on lately but still trying to create, laugh, make music, write, or simply figure life out, this event might be for you.

How to Live & Make Art in These F**ked Up Times is happening Sunday, September 20 at 3 PM at Brooklyn Art Haus.

It’s an afternoon of comedy, live music, performances, and a real conversation about what it means to be creative right now. How do we keep making things when the news is exhausting, life is expensive, politics feel chaotic, and sometimes we’re just tired?

We’ll be joined by Negin Farsad, Calvin Cato, Tomas Rodriguez, and Tanasha G, and I’ll be hosting the conversation.

We definitely don’t have all the answers lol. We just want to bring people together, laugh, experience some great art, talk honestly about where we’re at, and hopefully leave feeling a little more inspired to keep creating.

Sunday, September 20
3:00 to 4:30 PM
Brooklyn Art Haus

If this sounds like your kind of Sunday, come hang with us. I’ll leave the event and ticket info below :)
