Resources for Advanced Beginner?

I recently took up nalbinding and boy am I enjoying myself! I've made some swatches and socks, learned a few stitches, can increase and decrease, and gotten to the point where I can produce even stitch tension and follow a tutorial with relative confidence. But I feel like I don't have a good understanding of the technical underpinnings -- basically, I know the how, but I don't know the why, especially how different stitch constructions produce different effects and purposes. Why use this one over that one, etc. I love YouTube and the neulakintaat, but most of what I find is granular how-to tutorials. Does anyone have recs for a confident beginner looking to dive into meatier theory?

I am also curious about the nalbinding bible. The best resource I have found is https://www.en.neulakintaat.fi/ A fantastic site with great explanations, videos and a huge number of swatches

That's what I'm referring to :) I've seen it referenced as such.

Excuse me, what is the Nalbinding Bible?

As to your question: I’ve mostly relied on massive amounts of swatching and experimenting. I realize that’s probably not the answer you’re looking for, but it’s what I’ve got

So different effects are not just due to stitch, but also gauge and yarn grist. All three factors must be taken into consideration when deciding on a project. Do you want a flat, smooth fabric? Then you will want to choose a stitch with intralacing that alternates every loop and an F1 or B1 connection because that only has two threads crossing at any one point. Do you want a thicker fabric, turning stitches or something with bends and a connection that is deeper or overlapping. Roped/ridges texture on one side? A mid connection will push the top welt up.

I host Nalbinding Get Togethers most Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings on Zoom where we are happy to discuss all kinds of details about nalbinding.
