my name is spelt katie
but as a child I always used to spell it katy because I preferred that
idk the katy looks more softer to me
is it fine to change the spelling of my name at 19🤣🤣🤣

Socially yes. Spell it however you want
If Katie is your legal name, then you’ll need to use Katie for those official type situations. You can change your legal name in most cases if you really want but that’s a whole hassle to do just to change a spelling imo.

My name is legally spelt Erica but I’ve been spelling it Erika since 7th grade 😂
I don’t plan on legally changing the spelling until I change my last name cuz you have to get replacements of like every document and whatnot and it’s a lot

Where do you live?
In the UK, you can request for your name to be altered on your passport if you want a different spelling or a shorter/nickname version (I know a "Jackson" who got his name changed to "Jack" on his passport): https://www.gov.uk/changing-passport-information/name-divorce-deed-poll-forenames-title

I had a friend who went by Sami for almost all of our childhood and switched it to Sammii when we hit high school. It's low stakes to alter the spelling of a nickname. Full name might require more work

Warning, my 88 year old mother did that back in the day (she thought Catherine with a K was much more chic) not a problem until 9/11 and everyone becomes a suspect. Her docs don't match (her middle initial on birth certificate different and now state of Illinois won't let her change it. Don't do it unless you are actually willing to legally change it. It will eff you up somewhere along the line

Sure, why not. If you want it to be official, you'll need to go through the legal process to change it. But if it's just a nickname or you don't care about changing your legal name, just start spelling it Katy.Â

It is. From middle school until my late 30s I spelled my name Apryl instead of April. Same reason- it just looked right. Softer. I'm not entirely sure why I stopped spelling it that way.

You can change your name to Princess Consuela Banana Hammock if you want. It's more than fine to change the spelling of your name, but I would be careful about using your full name as a handle online.
