πŸ“° Article MINDEF looking to enhance NS milestone awards

The National Service Housing, Medical and Education (NS HOME) awards provide NSmen money to support their housing, healthcare and education needs, with disbursement made at three key points during their NS training cycle.

Servicemen can currently receive $17,000 to $18,500 in total in CPF and cash credits, with commanders receiving slightly higher support.

β€œI’ve given the (MINDEF) team some instructions to see how we can make this (award) more impactful, more meaningful for our NSmen, to better take care of them as they go through their life’s challenges while they serve the country and continue to take care of our security,” said Chan.

As for full-time national servicemen (NSFs), Chan said the ministry has a standing mechanism to regularly review their allowances, to see β€œwhat more we can do, or do better, to take care of our NSmen”.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, MINDEF said it is exploring a suitable NS60 recognition package that national servicemen past and present can look forward to.

In his YouTube clip, Chan said his ministry is also looking at ways to keep NS units together after their training cycle has been completed and they have passed into MINDEF reserve.

β€œA lot of the NSmenΒ wantΒ to stay in communication with one another, and actually, they are some of our best NS advocates,” he said.

β€œThere’s an opportunity for them to continue contributing, continue to keep in touch with one another, and actually, they are part of the SAF family as well.”

Funny Most insane excuses you've heard?

Not those weird but totally reasonable once you think about it like excuse sunlight, excuse sweating, excuse working alone etc.

I'm talking about those excuses that are hyper specific (e.g. excuse weekend guard duty πŸ’€)

Anyone here got funny stories?

Question 2nd time IPPT default - can just pay fine online or must go summary trial?

i got a warning letter for my 1st default last year. This year looks like I’m going to default 2nd time already. I know 2nd time is definitely a fine ($150ish) and I’m 100% down to just pay the money to settle it. But do I compulsory need to go camp for Summary Trial in uniform just to get fined? Or will they just issue a composition fine on the OneNS portal that I can pay via AXS/online and close case? Really don't want to physically go down to camp. Anyone experienced this before? Thanks for reading

Question Annual Leave Pro-rated (How does it work)

Hi guys, I enlisted on 11 Feb 2025 and will ORD 10 Feb 2027, so how will my leaves be pro-rated?

For 2025: I served 324/365 days of the year so annual leave days will be (324/365)*14 = 12.43 days but it was rounded up to 13 days

For 2026: Full year so 14 days

For 2027: It will be 41 days of service so (41/365)*14 = 1.57 days, but will this also be rounded up to 2 days or left as 1 day? (Cus if 14 days of annual leave per calendar year, I serve 2 years exact so by right is 28 days total right)

Thanks all! Sorry for the confusion

Discussion What are some of the most creative punishments you've seen?

Especially under the IPS, I'm quite curious because I've heard some laojiao enciks have... very creative minds when it comes to this.

I don't remember what this particular recruit did exactly but this recruit kena ask by his encik to balance on left leg and stretch his arms out like wings then extend his right leg horizontally behind and shout:

"I'm an airplane!"

Question future MO here, will tattoos affect my posting after MOCC? I was from spf

hi everyone, hoping some random MO (or anyone else) out here may have the answer to my question

for context, I was from SPF before I disrupted for med school. understand that I have a high probability of being posted to SCDF after my MOCC 3months course as long as I indicate interest.

just wondering if tattoos will affect my chances of posting to SCDF? I've got 5 tattoos, all hidden except for one on the calf of my right leg.

Thanks!

edit: yes, I got them after I disrupted from spf :)

Question SCDF Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Station Life

Hi all, I am soon graduating from EMT training as a NSF and would most likely be posted to station. I am just wondering how the day-to-day station life is like outside of the calls, cleaning and packing of equipment, etc. Apart from this stuff, is there much free time, baris, drills or that sort. Additionally, could I realistically study for my university applications in station? Thanks!

Question What happens when I am on HL during NS Fair?

Do I still have to go down?

How about annual leave (already approved)?

Asking this as someone who is on surgery HL for quite a decent period of time and will likely still be on HL during my NS Fair.

Question Ippt scoring for two stations

This is the first year I’m taking ippt with only two stations, I am excused upper limb hence don’t need to do push ups.

What would the passing score be for a regular/nsf for two stations.

I hear NSmen is 39. Was wondering what’s the passing for regulars and NSFs
