Help with some research

So im writing a fiction story with a half Navajo main character. She hunts monsters and I plan to use all different kinds of things like Bigfoot, Vampires, Mothman etc. I was wondering if someone could point me towards some good research sources for Navajo or Native American mythical creatures or culture/traditions in general. I myself am not Native American but I want to be as accurate with my story telling as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated

Is it a bad thing to want to do research and accurately depict a group of people and their culture?

When I was young, my father would tell us stories about how monsters roamed the surface of earth. When the Navajo people emerged from the underworld, monsters like the whirling log (think Nazi swastika), the rolling rock (not the beer), the giant eagle that lived atop Shiprock which fed it's chicks with live Navajos, plus many others would terrorize the Navajo. Unfortunately I was never able to find any literature on this. So sorry, maybe go to a nursing home and speak to an elder Navajo. But note, it has to be the right time of the year to discuss these things and perhaps bring some tobacco.
