This started as an idea from a children’s storybook — a small magical world where animals, trains, and stars could live together.

I recreated that feeling with needle felting, turning soft wool into tiny characters for a baby mobile.

Every little piece was shaped by hand, and I loved seeing the story slowly come together one animal at a time.

There’s something special about handmade toys and decorations — they feel like little memories waiting to be created. 🌙

If you could bring any storybook world into a nursery, which one would you choose?

I first learned how to needlefelt a few years ago, taking an impromptu lesson at a shop while on vacation in Nova Scotia. I haven’t done much such then, nor with a ton of varied color wool I bought at some sheep farms. This weekend, I was inspired to ease back in and made this little sheep-y bag charm. I kind of rushed through it and know it could have been neater but it suited my purpose!

Also how much should you pack in the felt? I had some trouble with the pointy bits on the wings. But I’m proud of the little Mohawk :)

I did this piece in a single evening a few years ago, it was one of my first needle felted pieces and I still love it!

Just wondering if it is better to attach all the core wool parts before adding wool roving or colouring each individual part before attaching together?

Currently I've felted the legs with core wool separately, but curious as to if I should firmly attach them to the torso before adding colours. The torso is entirely core wool whilst the legs each have a pipe cleaner holding them up.

Appreciate any and all advice. <3

Hi everyone, looking to see if anyone has ever needle felted on a ballcap. I have seen people do it on beanies, but I'm not sure if the material of a ball cap would be too hard. has anyone ever done this and knows how to achieve it?

2D felting is deeply satisfying

There is someone in one of my art groups who has made a couple posts of needle felted dogs she has made. I'm a beginner when it comes to needle felting, still getting my bearings so I'm not able to say for sure if this is her actual work, or the work of generative AI. My first reaction was this was all generative AI, but the amount of people not seeing it, and her doubling and tripling down over it not being generative AI to the few people who call it out, has me second guessing myself.

I know wool quality varies, and some amazing techniques can be accomplished with needle felting, but can the results look like this? I also find it suspicious that every one of her process videos is a string of 2-3 second video clips strung together, but some people like to make content in that way so I get it's not specific to generative AI.

I know pretty much nothing about needle felting but my husband enjoyed doing a few kits a few years ago. Since we welcomed our now 1.5yo, life has been extremely intense for lots of different reasons and there’s no time for anything ever. Luckily I’ve been able to keep doing some knitting which is an easier hobby with a toddler because it’s pretty easy to put down.

My husband has been struggling a lot and never does anything to wind down except be on his phone. I’d love to gift him a few bits of needle felting things to give him a chance to have a bit of a hobby again that can hopefully relax him a bit more than scrolling on a phone.

What would be a good starter set? He only did the kits before and I think the needles provided in them cause a bit of strain. Should I get a pack of wool from somewhere? Any books that have some ideas to get him started? Anything else that might be helpful?

Whilst I’m under no impression a small hobby will solve all of life’s stress, I would like to encourage him to take a piece of time for himself. I think this hobby can also be easily paused when needed yes?

I'm making a doll and want it to say lightweight and posable with its armature, but I want a tight smooth finish on the outside. Is it possible to acheive this, or do the innards also need to be tightly felted to give the polished look I'm hoping for?

I want to make a plushie with a chibi face. However, I’m still a beginner, and I don’t understand how to make many things!

I tried making a head before, but I don’t think it was firm enough, so I couldn’t put the eyes on without it looking silly. Actually, I think I heavily underestimate how firm I should be making these bases. Sigh.

Any help and tips will be appreciated!

These birds were part of a door wreath, and recently one fell off, and that’s when I realised they’d all been gnawed on. I cleaned them as best I could and some really fell apart and then I put them in the freezer. They’ve been there for a week now. Now I’m wondering what I should do next. Will the moth eggs all die in the freezer? Or do I need to do something else before I repair them? And generally speaking, what do you do to stop your felt figures from being attacked by moths?
