Help Fix Leaf stitch gone wrong?

Is my leaf stitch supposed to have the gaps in it? Specifically the ones under the top two leaves. I’m following the stitches to go guide and feel like I’ve done it correctly, but my mom (also a needlepointer) was sending me some examples where there aren’t any gaps.

Your diagram does, so you’re doing that one correctly. The one I followed had them in the same hole.

Edit: I followed this one: https://www.needlework-tips-and-techniques.com/leaf-stitch.html

Yes, you’ll notice in the stitch diagram that there is a canvas thread between the trio drawn

Your stitches look correct as well as lovely! The ‘gaps’ will be extra visible because of the white canvas giving the illusion of larger gaps.

You could always tell yourself that the gaps in the pattern are where the caterpillar had a little nibble :)

Off topic, but what thread did you use for his head? I love it
