Opinion Johan Derksen is remarkably positive: 'But it's a tough fight' [Dutch, translation below]
Johan Derksen praises the KNVB for the resistance it offers Gianni Infantino. The Dutch Football Association wants to organize a summit in Amsterdam to discuss the future of FIFA without President Infantino. The podcast De Greetings from Grolloo talks about the plan.
'The KNVB always meekly followed UEFA and FIFA. They did not make a fuss when a World Cup was played in Qatar, where human rights were violated. FIFA had promised that no more World Cup would be held where human rights were violated and they had not yet said it or Saudi Arabia would get the next World Cup,' Derksen kicks off.
The seasoned analyst is amazed by the Infantino. 'Death sentences are handed out there every day and it is of course a bad country. But they have money there and Infantino is hungry for it. He has gone completely crazy. He came up with the peace prize to give it to Trump,' he says.
Derksen responds to the KNVB's plan for a top consultation in the Netherlands. 'I think it's very good that the KNVB is finally making itself heard, but they are now leading the rebellion. So they want a top meeting in Amsterdam with the European countries without Infantino. Well, I don't believe it will be successful. I think it's a dead end fight,' the analyst thinks.
The former footballer praises the association for the initiative, but gives the plan little chance of success. 'I think it is in any case serious and characterful that they are now resisting. But I think that what the Netherlands is doing on stage is very cool, but they are not achieving anything.'

News Deadline Day: The transfer market closes this late in the top competitions, the Netherlands has an extra day [Dutch, translation below]
The last day for Dutch clubs to attract players is approaching, but today is the last time clubs in the major leagues can buy or rent players. We have listed the most important transfer deadlines for you.
After Wednesday, players can no longer come to the Netherlands, but they can still leave for a number of foreign competitions, where the transfer market is open for a little longer. The transfer deadlines for other countries are as follows:
- Duitsland: dinsdag 1 september om 20.00 uur
- Frankrijk: dinsdag 1 september om 20.00 uur
- Italië: dinsdag 1 september om 20.00 uur
- Engeland: dinsdag 1 september om 23.59 uur
- Spanje: dinsdag 1 september om 23.59 uur
- In Nederland kunnen clubs nog tot woensdagavond 23.59 uur spelers aantrekken
Deadlines overige competities
- Verenigde Staten: donderdag 3 september om 05.59 uur
- Canada: donderdag 3 september om 05.59 uur
- Schotland: donderdag 3 september om 17.00 uur
- Qatar: donderdag 3 september om 22.59 uur
- België: donderdag 3 september om 23.59 uur
- Turkije: vrijdag 4 september om 22.59 uur
- Saoedi-Arabië: zondag 6 september om 22.59 uur
- Portugal: dinsdag 15 september om 20.00 uur
- Griekenland: dinsdag 15 september (tijd niet bekend)
Why does market close on different days?
According to FIFA rules, national football associations can decide for themselves when the transfer market closes in their country. As a result, the closing date varies per competition. For example, Germany has chosen to close the transfer market earlier than many other European countries.
The Netherlands also has its own closing date. The KNVB has chosen to keep the transfer market open one day longer than in England, Spain, Italy and France. This gives Dutch clubs extra time to attract a new player if they sell a player to a foreign club on the last day of the transfer period.
For example, clubs in the Premier League and the Kitchen Champion Division can still look for a replacement, while the transfer market in the major foreign competitions is already closed.
Free transfer players
Football players without a contract may still be signed by a new club after the market has closed. So they do not have to wait for the next transfer period.
Players entering their final year of contract are only allowed to officially negotiate and sign a pre-contract with a new club in the last six months of their contract without permission from the current employer.
