Text College Dorm Ethernet Wired Wrong?

My ethernet in my dorm wasn’t working so i took off the panel to see what the issue may be. Can anyone tell me if these are wired incorrectly and if so if there is any way to fix it?

There is no way for you to know. Call your help desk.

Kodos for wanting to learn. But before you do, open a ticket with your dorm IT. They have an IT department that would want to know that a jack has gone out. (It may not be the jack that is the problem.)

Google (or AI) CAT 5 color codes. There are two standards: T568A and T568B. It should be one of those.

The University I work at requires MAC address registration for wired devices to work. Does yours require the same? We (Reddit) won’t be able to really help you, call your school’s IT department.

Why are you taking wall plates off rather than talking to your dorm IT department? All sorts of reasons a port could be disabled or not working, and it's all down to them to sort.

Does a link light come on when you plug it in to your computer? If yes, it is a campus IT problem. If no, it is still a campus IT problem. Are you getting an IP address? There are a hundred things you possibly could do, but if your goal is just to get connected, the simplest solution is to call campus IT.... Unless you can trace the cable back to an IDF or possibly an MDF if you have a smaller topology, break into the room and console onto the switch then....

Seriously though, if you live there and go to school there, do not get anyone to run network scanners or tear apart walls or break into rooms. Call IT. Dont risk your college career or standing over a bad connection. Most of the Universities I've worked with take any kind of messing with the network very seriously. They will not hesitate to wreck your academic career in a heartbeat.

What college? Some are wireless only

If you didnt install the networking yourself, dont play with it. Just get help thru whatever IT service your college offers.

You didn't attach a picture, but it'll either be wired in T568A or T568B. They could have NAC running or other filtering configured, so it's best to go through the help desk

My college intentionally miswired the room jacks so only their patch cords worked. Of course this was 1999, no telling what your situation is. Could be that if you're supposed to pay for it and you're not that the port is just admin down until you do.
