Tutorial Learn to ride your board before you attempt tricks

I keep seeing too many of y'all hurting yourself attempting tricks way outside your comfort level. Just learn to ride around and get comfortable pushing and carving first. Learn how to fall by practising rolling on the grass. Stop trying to drop in and ollie over objects before you are comfortable just cruising around.

Question I just don‘t know how to fix it..

Hey guys!
This is me trying to kickflip. I have the flip quite consistently down. I can catch the flip with my front foot and back foot separately but I can’t get my front foot on and over the board when I’m going for a real kickflip. Most of the time my foot lands on the side or in front of the nose. I just don’t know what to change anymore. I am really committing to it but something in my brain must be wired incorrectly or something.
Does anyone have/had the same problem and might be able to help a guy out?
Thanks in advance and cheers from Hamburg!

Question am i overreacting?

Post image
15 Upvotes

EDIT: thank you for all the helpful replies! please keep in mind that i am new, this is a subreddit for new skaters. i just wanted some advice for pain relief and to double check if the pain im feeling is typical. if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all!

hi! i just started longboarding, and yesterday i got this scrape. to say the pain is agonizing is an understatement. no matter how many times i disinfect it and treat it, it insists on leaking through whatever bandage i put on it, and it even shreiks in pain with no dressing at all. im nearly paralized from pain, coupled with a general soreness in my whole leg from the impact. (my board got caught on a sidewalk ledge, got flown foward) - is this typical for this type of injury? am i overreacting? or is what im describing something more?
… its safe to say i ordered some protective gear for the next time i wipe out. shits no joke! 😭

Question Intermediate/combo tricks to try on a ledge?

When I go on YouTube trying to find inspiration for weird or unusual tricks to try, it’s either all basic tricks or combo tricks done by pros that’s way beyond my capability. Here’s some examples of these tricks I already can do but I’m looking for more:

FS 180 to 5050 to fakie 360 out

Crooked grind to nollie shove out (easier for me than just popping out)

BS 180 to 5050 to fakie big spin out

FS nose slide to 270 out

I’m a snowboarder so that’s why I’m pretty decent at spins into and out of 5050 grinds, only recently have I started learning more skateboarding specific stuff, like nose/tail slides, crooks, smiths, etc, but I need inspiration. The weirder the better

Primitive Trucks bushings?

I picked up a complete that a friend never really used he just had sitting in his garage. It's the Sasuke Primitive 8.25" deck with Primitive 52mm wheels and Primitive trucks. the pivot bushings fell apart while I was using it but I guess that's normal with the age. What replacements should I run in Primitive Trucks?

Never skated before but wanting to start, advice?

Hi!!! I'm 17 (F), a senior in highschool now, and have found myself with tons of free time in my new schedule. I feel so lazy bumming around doing nothing at home, and I haven't done a sport since before COVID (swimming). I don't have any extracurriculars. I want to be more active and trying something that will most definitely be embarrassing and awkward seems exciting to me.

I've watched some of Elissa Steamer's old stuff and Bam (I love Jackass), and it just really made me want to go out and do it. I think I'll ask for a board for Christmas.

My guy friends skate, but I think I'd want to learn on my own before I ever feel comfortable doing it with them. Parks seem really intimidating, so probably no visits for a while. I live in the suburbs and have a couple places in mind I can go to without people watching.

I'd really enjoy any general advice. Maybe from other girls who skate, or people who get embarrassed really easily.

Question I'm 17 years, am I late to start?

So, skateboarding seems to be a really cool thing and I want to do Because... Idk, when I see a skateboard The First thing that comes to mind is freedom and Anarchy for some reason.

I live in Brazil and im planning to start practicing in a few months, I Just dont want to start now Because im a bit... FAT! I wanna lose some weight to be more healthy too, but The main point here is about skating.

So, people, what do You have to say, recommend me to do? If I'm going to start, there is The "right things to do or buy before"? How should I learn?

How do you like risers in the skate park?

For context I'm getting wheel bite on the half bowl thing and when I'm landing tricks after going from 54mm to 56mm. I like the speed and I'm too broke for new wheels anyway so I ordered some 1/8 risers to try (will not update lol). I can avoid it if I'm more precise, it's a skill issue.. but why not try them out anyway?

With that said, how did you guys feel about the change from risers? Did you keep them, drop them, change wheel size, trucks, etc?

It's all preference, yes, but what's yours?
