Medical student in search of clinical opportunities
Hi everyone,
I know this isn’t Facebook, but this is pretty much my Hail Mary. I'm currently in medical school and our graduation requirements include completing clinical rotations, which is basically where you work with a physician (M.D. or D.O only) anywhere between 2-4 weeks at a time. What do I need to do with the physician? That's up to them. I can see as many or as few patients as they like; read up on topics and present on them; stay full or partial days--it just depends on what they want.
That is pretty easy to arrange if you have someone in your family who is in the medical field or have a family friend who is one. Unfortunately, I’m a first-generation student, so I don't have the same type of connections as other people do. My school has coordinators that are, in theory, supposed to help out with this kind of stuff, but they aren't much help. They just direct you to websites with outdated information. I'm already aware of VSLO and Clinician Nexus. Not much help there either.
That said, I have to resort to finding opportunities myself. If you are aware of any physicians who might be willing to have a student for 2-4 weeks and get paid by the school afterwards as compensation, I would love to know. Big universities are usually affiliated with certain hospitals and give priority to their own students, so unless you have a close connection with a physician there, it won't do me much good to try and talk to the folks at NYU.
A little bit about me if that makes any difference:
- Mid 20s, originally from TN
- First generation student
- Bilingual and native Spanish speaker
- Hobbies: I like to read, play guitar, chess, video games, watch anime, and work out
- Medical interests: neurology and psychiatry
Moreover, despite my interests, I am fine with any speciality since the gaps I need to fill won’t have much of an impact on my residency applications. My most immediate need is finding a physician to work with between 10/19 - 11/13 and I can go from there.
Thanks for your time and have a great day

Looking for photographer and celebrant for 30 mins
(Nassau County)
Hi all, my fiance and I have a big wedding scheduled for next year, but on Oct 20 we are holding our legal ceremony on Long Island with just our immediate families so that my 103 yr old grandfather can attend
All the photographers and celebrants I've found online are for bigger celebrations
We are just looking to have a 5-10 min ceremony and take 10-15 mins of photos as my grandparents can't last that long out of the house much longer than that due to their health
If anyone knows a photographer and/or celebrant on Long Island (Nassau County) that we can hire for something this low key it would be very appreciated!

Tis the season
It is time once again for the annual reminder. Fall hunting seasons in NY begin September 1. Exact dates, hours, species, and implements vary throughout the state. While hunter and non-hunter injuries are extremely rare, wearing some neon orange or pink while enjoying the outdoors this time of year would be recommended. Something as simple as a hat or vest. An ounce of prevention goes a long way.
Also, just a reminder it is illegal to interfere with a legal hunt.
There is plenty of room out there for everyone. Enjoy it safely.

The best thing that happened to me in New York this week cost zero dollars
A woman on the subway saw me holding a map and asked where I was going. She was not even getting off at my stop. She walked me up the stairs and pointed me the right way, then went back down to catch the next train. That is the part people never mention when they talk about this city. We have a reputation for being rude, and honestly we are loud and we walk fast and we will yell at you for standing on the left side of the escalator. But when something actually goes wrong, ten people turn around at once.
I have seen a whole train car help a mom get a stroller up the stairs. I have watched strangers hold a door for twenty minutes during a rainstorm. Someone gave me their umbrella once and would not take it back. None of that shows up in the rent, and none of it shows up in the news. It just happens, all day, everywhere, and then everybody goes back to ignoring each other like nothing happened.
So tell me yours. What is the nicest thing a random New Yorker ever did for you?

Can NYS please sue Trump admin over Lake Ontario thing?
NYS arguably has the strongest standing to challenge this absurd renaming by the Trump admin. A lawsuit can stop having Google Maps etc do this dumb renaming.
