Abandoned House, Niagara Region

I came upon this old abandoned house in the Niagara area last year. I only know of one person who has managed to get inside it and unfortunately that person is not me!

The last time I stopped by, they had covered all of the windows and doors with fresh plywood boards.

So for now, we just get to enjoy this exterior photo!

Driving from Chicago to Western Massachusetts- route thru MI/Canada to see Niagara Falls?

I’m driving my college freshman from Chicago to school in Western MA and we are trying to decide whether to route north of Lake Erie through Michigan and Canada so we can drive by Niagara Falls on the Canadian side and then drop down to Buffalo or whether we should stick with I-90 thru Cleveland on the south side of Lake Erie. Either way we will pass through Buffalo but since my daughter has never seen Niagara Falls I thought it might be fun to drive the northern route even if we only stop for a brief look at the falls. Anyone familiar with both routes and can share pros/cons? On the northern route it looks like we could go thru Detroit or thru Sarnia into Canada.

It looks like the mileage is not that different with the two routes but of course we will have to deal with border crossing in and out of Canada which will take some time. We only have two days to make the drive so I would plan to make it to the Niagara Falls area the first day and stay near the falls on the Canadian side so we we can get up early and take a look before heading on towards MA. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Niagara Falls Day Trip from Toronto via Megabus

Hello! I'm planning a day trip to Niagara Falls with my partner in ~1.5-2 weeks (early to mid September). I'm thinking of going on a Friday due to the Megabus return times being later on the weekend days so that we can stay a bit longer and see the lights.

I've noticed that most of the posts I've seen recommend going to Niagara-on-the-lake and making it a two-day trip, but we have the constraint of only going for a day, so I'd like to stick to the Falls area.

Roughly speaking, this is what I'm thinking for the itinerary. I would love some feedback on this! We like water sports and taking in the scenery. We enjoy a nice meal and glass of wine every now and then but would prefer prioritizing experiences like the Aero Car or jet boat if we had to choose. Curious if there is something I should be considering or if this seems like a good first Niagara Falls experience? Should we leave earlier? Thanks in advance!

  • 10:05am-10:30am Arrive via Megabus
  • Take in the sights, take the Whirlpool Aero Car
  • Lunch
  • 2:15pm: Jet Boat Tour (we plan on getting wet!)
  • Dinner
  • 7pm: See the night lights
  • 8:15pm: Leave via Megabus

Going to Niagara falls today in bus need help with planning.

I'm planning to go for Niagara falls today from North York it's a 3.5 hrs travel is there any other affordable travel, my budget is 100cad for the whole travel and I'm planning to take the cruise for sure( is the premium add on worth it?). But I have no idea how to do anything here, where exactly should I go for the cruise?. What are all other locations I should Go nearby like a town, trails etc. are there the tangerine bike options near Niagra. I would appreciate if anyone can what to do where to in an order after the cruise. Thank u. Should I book the cruise ticket online or should take it there so that I won't miss my time

And is worth it if Im only gonna reach there around 2.00pm for the cruise and exploring the nearby towns and trails by bike or walk?

Remember what the Fallsview area looked like before all the hotels?

I’ve been digging into the history of the Fallsview area in Niagara Falls, and it’s amazing how much has disappeared.

Before the huge hotels dominated the skyline, this area had places like Towerview Park, the Burning Springs Wax Museum & Observation Tower, Waltzing Waters, and other attractions many people probably remember.

I put together a video comparing what was here then with what stands there today, including some great old photos.

If you grew up around Niagara or visited back then, I’d especially love to hear what you remember. There are still pieces of this history I’m trying to uncover.

I took a walk through nearly 200 years of Clifton Hill history — it looked VERY different before the attractions

I’ve been digging into the history of Clifton Hill and recently put together a walking video showing what was here before the Clifton Hill we know today.

It goes back to the days of Ferry Road, Clifton Place, the old hotels and tourist camps, and eventually into the attractions many of us remember.

I used old photos throughout so you can compare the locations with what’s there today.

Thought some fellow Niagara history fans might enjoy it. Would also love to hear what you remember disappearing from Clifton Hill.

Parking questions

Hello, I plan to go to Niagara Falls as a stop during a road trip. I would get there on a Saturday evening in a few weeks, stay overnight, and see a few things that Sunday. I do NOT need a view of the falls from my hotel room, as I will see the falls on Sunday. I have specific questions for you locals and frequent visitors:

  1. Which is the best hotel at which to stay for issues of parking? Preferably not a luxury hotel, but not a motel-type, either. Particularly, one with a close WEGO stop, since that is how I'd be getting around on Sunday. Bonus if you can give me parking cost there. OR, recommend a decent hotel in a pleasant and safe area, but then direct me to a different place to park in the morning, near a WEGO stop, and safe enough that I don't worry about either leaving the car, or walking back to it from the bus stop. Bonus for parking costs at the hotel, and/or the off-site parking lot.

  2. How much time, minimum, do I need to budget to view the falls from a vantage point, then take the power station self tour, then perhaps go on the aerocars....including the time for taking the WEGO bus from place to place?

Thanks in advance ....this really is all the info for which I'm looking, at this point. I've read other posts for ideas of what to do and see.

Local web designer taking on a few more small business projects

Hey everyone! I run a small web design business based in Ontario and I'm currently looking to take on a few more projects.

I build websites for small businesses that need their first site or want to redesign an outdated one. I can handle the design, development, mobile optimization, contact/quote forms, basic SEO, domain setup, hosting and launch.

Websites currently start at $700 CAD, depending on the size and features needed.

You can check out my work here: infawebdesign.com

If you own a business and want a new website or want me to take a look at your current one, feel free to DM me. I can give you a rough quote pretty quickly.

Thanks!

Niagara Falls, US side in Mid to Late April

Hi all, planning a trip to Niagara Falls in mid- to late April. I'm looking for recommendations on where to stay. We prefer hotels; we will fly into Buffalo. Also, would we need a rental car?
