The Nepal flash floods were caused by collapsing bedrock, not a melting glacier, scientists who have studied the satellite images have said. The Week has the story.

Earth scientists have finally shed light on how the tragic Nepal flood that claimed thousands of lives happened, with the latest satellite images revealing not just the glacier, but also that the bedrock under the glacier had collapsed.

Geomorphologists Kristen Cook and Dan Shugar claimed that further analysis of the satellite images from Nepal revealed there was a “big bedrock failure that took part of the glacier with it”.

Christians are certainly called to care for the sick. But Jesus healing people does not establish a biblical mandate for any particular government healthcare plan. Talarico still has to demonstrate that his proposal will lower costs and improve care—not merely invoke Jesus as moral validation for it.

"A historic church dating over 100 years old has been razed to the ground in a suspected arson attack on Canada's Acadian Peninsula.

The Saint-Simon church in New Brunswick, which was built in 1918, was engulfed in flames last week.

The building was unoccupied and no injuries were reported, but the Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the blaze was deliberately set.

The historic structure, a cornerstone of the local Catholic community in the region, has been declared a total loss.

The baby was found in a bathroom.

The child is currently under the care of Westchester County Child Protective Services."

Talarico’s problem isn’t that evangelicals haven’t noticed how often he mentions Jesus. It’s that they’ve also noticed how he votes. Christianity isn’t simply a rhetorical style, and a seminary degree doesn’t require religious voters to disregard profound disagreements over abortion, sexuality, and the role of faith in public life.

Even San Francisco Democrats recognize that “tax the billionaires” isn’t automatically sound policy. They opposed Proposition 40 by 17–4 because a state-level wealth tax could drive major taxpayers away and weaken future revenues. The nonpartisan Legislative Analyst agrees that it could reduce income-tax revenue by up to $1 billion annually. Then, rather tellingly, the committee endorsed a national wealth tax that it has no power to enact.

It’s wonderful to see an African-American success story.

While politicians argue over how to redistribute the existing pie, entrepreneurs are trying to make the pie dramatically larger. Musk’s numbers may prove optimistic, but sustained economic growth—not envy or confiscation—is ultimately what raises living standards.
