Textbook help
I need four textbooks this fall term. They were all “available through the big blue bundle” so I went to get them there. It didn’t have any of my materials I needed so I tried to buy them online in the bookstore. The bookstore didn’t let me buy them because they’re supposed to be through the big blue bundle. What do I do? I literally can’t get any of my textbooks at all

I’m an instructor and my students don’t seem to know about the Big Bundle although we submitted our textbook titles to the University as requested. You’d think something would go out telling the students how they’ll get their books, especially since they’ve been charged for them? For my students, I’ll provide any pdfs of the text I can in the meantime. As far as I know, we couldn’t opt our courses out from this program. Students were going to get charged even if we adopted an Open Access Text or utilized a text that ODU Libraries could purchase a license for. Sigh…

I was wondering about this because my profs even went as far as providing Amazon links and telling us to acquire them ASAP so I rush ordered physical textbooks and then got an email the day of classes announcing that my books were part of the bundle. Now I'm hoping I can return my books for at least a partial refund. I was under the impression professors might not have known about it either.

It's truly unfortunate and I'm sorry you're stressing out. I hear that it is going to be credited back to your account after the deadline (don't hold your breath).
The administrative capacity at the school to even look at the issues is so low that no one truly knows how to help the students. And if someone does, they're overwhelmed with too many responsibilities, don't have any additional support or ability to share the institutional knowledge, or are on vacation...

Sometimes teachers have to make the material
Available, so I’d reach out to them to see if they just haven’t done that yet. To find out if a course is part of the Day One Access Program, you go to Registration and select the class, then when it pulls the class details you go to Course Description. It’ll say “this course is part of the day one access program…”. If it is then you don’t order textbooks but if it’s not then you have to order them yourself. I’d encourage you to check this because not all classes are a part of the Big blue bundle.

How do they receive the books via Big Blue Bundle? My students are asking but I don’t even know what to tell them because no one’s told me. What a mess!

The big blue bundle is the same as the Day one access. There should be an email they receive about the bundle it all say Big blue bundle or your digital materials are ready. I haven’t had any physical textbooks so that may be an email from the bookstore, mine have all been online but usually there’s also a link within canvas. https://www.odu.edu/bookstore/big-blue-bundle

might be helpful, might not be helpful. i didn’t realize i had course materials until i received email’s this morning about it.
one of my classes has a tab on canvas labeled “B&N Course Materials”. at first i didn’t have anything but now all of my classes that have eligible textbooks are there. it shows up through a third party website that i can access them on. it’s called “Yuzu” but im not sure if you can access it without going through canvas. i would definitely check and see if any one of your classes has this option!

And don't forget to opt out of Big Blue Bundle by Sep 3! Because it's obviously a scam.
