Mitigate Regression

How do I stop my Triple Crown winner from regressing? I have a player I want to rack up historical numbers with, but he gets slightly worse every year and his ratings consistently drop despite maxed-out hitting development sliders, top-tier coaches, and great team morale. The player development screen shows positive changes, but my scout reports a constant decline, and I am trying to figure out what I am missing. Thanks in advance!

Additionally, at what age do pitchers and hitters officially stop developing? We have all seen the classic 25-year-old "low floor, high ceiling" prospect, but if they haven't broken out by 26, is it time to call it quits?

I may be off here (and there’s some incredible folks in this community with a lot more knowledge of the game) but I think a lot of it is chalked up to TCR. There’s always gonna be a bit of randomness to the progression and regression. Especially with a 80/20 rating system a guy may be showing 60 but is steadily declining under the hood throughout the year or vice versa.

As far as age goes that’s setting dependent. Assuming you’re on default it’s really a question of how they’re performing at 26. I’ve had guys make their debuts at 27 or so and absolutely break out. I’ve had guys look great at 23 ish and sputter. You really don’t know until you get a sample size to review.

My biggest piece of advice is to not solely rely on ratings - review the stats, compare with osa ratings, look at tendencies, mental attributes, etc and don’t be afraid to give guys game time (a higher injury setting lends itself to natural IL time etc to get some prospects ml experience.

I've only been playing the past couple iterations of this game, but can absolutely confirm stats and data over ratings. Sometimes I get a 40 overall very mundane looking pitcher to challenge for the Cy Young award. Another thing with pitchers, ground ballers who throw hard are pretty much guaranteed to do well, in most cases I've seen at least.

Yeah prolly my favorite part of the game when an under the radar 40s pitcher makes it in the bigs. Does go to show how much fog of war there is in the scouting and analysis.

Second the ground ballers… just made a mistake last night on my save bringing a very expensive sp to Philly. Only to realize he’s an extreme fly baller. Not doing great

Yes this is the right answer I keep it low it's not realistic and I only like it as a way to take guys who are really underdeveloped and to give them those boost they need, but honestly I can just do that myself and commissioner mode or find other ways to boost talent without having to use talent change randomness

I think TCR to but it's a slow decline and consistent so it cant be like a %5 decline each year right? Settings are default.

It could be naturally declining as well. There’s a setting that allows you to change the “declining age” can’t remember the exact term.

TCR definitely has some effect. I’ve got a 33 year old pitcher who has improved his last 3 years. He consistently puts up over 6 WAR. His stuff is down but his movement and control have both improved.

Even the ratings are dropping. He was sitting around 10.5 WAR for the first 6 years or so and now its dropped one war down to like 7.5 WAR. ITs the bat though not the Defense either. Sad stuff.

You can't do much without editing the player.
