Husted worker
I hope this is a proper post for this sub.
A Husted supporter came to my front door earlier today as I was going out to get the mail. He didn’t get to say too much before I told him I wouldn’t vote for Husted or any other republican. He said aren’t you conservative, I have you as conservative on my list. I told him No, I’m way too smart for that. He said we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I said nope, can’t do that regarding the Epstein files. He mumbled something. I said to him, “They r*ped children, and that’s not a deal breaker for you, you should think about that.” He got in his car and left.

i’ve been seeing job listings for conservative canvassers on indeed. they’re paying that fucker $25/hr for that.

Meanwhile us lefties are out pounding the pavement for free, and proud of it 💪
If you're in house district 15 you better be voting for Don Leonard!

How do they verify you're actually spreading good word about their guy? Be funny if someone took the position then just walked around advocating against Husted.

u/Wildkarrde_ 14h ago
I'm kinda tempted to go door to door for him telling people that he'll be doing the most off the wall shit.
"Do you support John Husted and his initiative to remove women from the work force?"
"Can I tell you about John Husted and his plan to lease Lake Erie to China?"
50
u/hsy1234 13h ago
I’m not saying this from a position of support, but I’m not sure your first example will be received poorly in much of Ohio
17
u/Pun_drunk 13h ago
But that would leave no women for the conservative business owners to sexually harass. Well, at least not at work.
3
u/Bill_Brasky_SOB 2h ago
Hell I bet even after the second one (leasing Erie to China) would be met with, more than a few times:
Well he’s the Republican candidate so I have to

I was thinking the exact same thing, but then worried about being charged with theft or being associated with them. Being associated with them is worse.

I went door to door when my dad ran for office two decades ago. It was a very different world. I would not go door to door for my own father today, let alone for a man who courts the Epstein class.
Good on you for making him feel some shame, hopefully.
Edit: my dad is still awesome and would be a great candidate I’m just scared of getting shot now lol

I canvassed for Obama in 2008. It was a worthwhile experience, even though I got called a "n****r lover" and "tell him he can go back to Kenya". There were many people who treated me with kindness, though, even though they didn't agree with my polical stance. So if someone comes to my door, regardless of who they support, I treat them with respect. It's a hard job to stand up in person for what you believe in.

u/AliveInCLE Cleveland 14h ago
How would you define a successful interaction?
14
u/yojoe26 13h ago
You can usually tell if someone is actually listening or just waiting for you to end your spiel so they can close the door on you. Sometimes I would get into friendly debates, which was a positive experience as well. And there were a number of young people I encountered who hadn't even considered voting and didn't have a clue about how to do so. Back then you could still register and vote the same day.
2
u/Buckeye__Here 1h ago
I canvassed for Obama, too, and took my 6yo son with me. We saw a house with a McCain/Palin sign.
My son: Is that her grandpa?
Me: Is Senator McCain Governor Palin’s grandpa? Is that what you’re asking?
Son: Yeah.
Me:: No, but he could be.

u/thunderintess 10h ago
When I campaigned for Bernie Sanders, we were given lists of doors to knock on. Those doors were already certified Democrats, so we never interacted with anyone who opposed him. It was just a "Remember to vote" thing. Seemed pointless to me, and I wasn't a very good campaigner. And it was a rainy day.

u/Aggravating_Royal728 11h ago
Canvassing is great. I was out in a rural area in the 15th district this weekend and I sat down with an 80-year-old gentleman with a long career in law enforcement whose biggest worry was getting Trump and Hegseth out of office. We spoke for a long time. Most people didn't answer their doors, but we had meaningful interactions with those that did.
10
u/beanwire 14h ago
Canvassing isn't too too bad, worst bit is the folks that are legally blind but won't mention it until you leave. All that effort wasted trying to make eye contact and knowing that their kids are going to be filling in the ballot for them anyway!
9
u/thefaehost 14h ago
I was canvassing for a Democrat in butler county. It is definitely worse now - partially because I am more visibly queer and more disabled than I was before.

u/N757AF 14h ago
Disgraced Harvard President Larry Summers, Hollywood scion Casey Wasserman and prominent lawyer Brad Karp — who allegedly worked to “silence and destroy” sexual harassment accusers — are just some of the Epstein associates who donated to Sherrod Brown’s campaigns through the years.
25
u/creamilinisoup 14h ago
and jon husted voted against the files being released to protect dumpy. i think one senator is obviously worse than the other. but sure if taking a donation is the worse offense to you
-19
u/N757AF 14h ago
It is a gross mischaracterization to say he opposed releasing the files, instead that he objected to attaching the amendment to a defense spending bill, which was "utterly inappropriate."
15
u/creamilinisoup 13h ago
yeah, that’s why he’s not doing anything about the fact that the unredacted files were court ordered to be released in December and they still haven’t been released

Speaking of inappropriate, Trump raped children and Husted is covering for him.
44
u/Jodenaje 14h ago
Recently, I got a text from the Husted campaign full of all the usual lies they like to spread about Sherrod Brown.
Let me tell you—they do not like it when you reply to their text and simply say, “I’m voting for Sherrod.”
I got a barrage of replies basically telling me how awful I am for voting for the evil liberals. Yada, yada, yada.
Usually, I just ignore those messages. But I was feeling a little spicy that day.
I haven't blocked the number yet because I'm curious to see if they try again.
24
u/battlepi 14h ago
If I get them from "Trump", I just ask - Isn't he dead yet? I heard he raped a lot of kids.
I vary the response depending who the candidate is, but I never let them off easy. Tell them about how Husted touched you and your baby brother at camp, but his parents paid you not to talk about it.
15
u/opticsnake 13h ago
See, this great! Now I can go around saying that I read that he touched children at camp and not be lying about it!

Well done, OP! I would suggest if you have the time and encounter this situation again, try to keep them engaged as long as possible so they reach fewer people. I realize that’s asking a lot to talk with a Husted supporter for that long…
Again, well done and fuck Husted.

u/DudeInOhio57 14h ago
Thank you! Good idea to keep them away from others (for as long as I can tolerate being in their presence).

u/Creatively_Distinct 14h ago
And exactly what would you do? Nothing more than the original poster! You gonna shoot someone canvassing for a politician? You wanting to throw down on the front porch? You’d do something similar to the poor gentleman that shared his experience or have someone trying to post your bond.
Check your macho bs dude. And no, I don’t support John Husted or the Orange Man. I support civil discord and differing perspectives. I don’t support some random clown talking about he would teach that fella exercising his first amendment rights. Something we all should do in a civilized manner.
With the above being said, and you want to actually make a difference, join us at Sherrod Brown Headquarters and hit the streets with us.
15
u/Bedley_smutler69 13h ago
I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a worse recruitment pitch and you’re damaging the cause you’re advocating by being a dick.
-6
u/Creatively_Distinct 13h ago
You’re entitled to your opinion. I respect that, while disagreeing strongly. People need to stop saber rattling and talking shit through social media. Tired of the Husted message, get off your ass and do something to change the tide. Husted has millions of more dollars to pay canvassers. Do something to counter balance that by getting active supporting Sherrod Brown. Pretty simple message and plan for someone hoping a Husted supporter shows up on his doorstep.
10
u/creamilinisoup 13h ago
the post is about engaging in conversation with a fascist. why are you automatically jumping to this guy wanting to commit violence against the canvasser? absolutely nothing about their comment implied that
-3
u/Creatively_Distinct 13h ago
As if he or you are going to change the mind of a fascist canvassing for Husted? What good will that do? I was saying and continue to contend that the Brown campaign could use the ‘boots on the ground’ supporters, not someone sitting behind a screen talking trash about what they would say if a fascist came to their door. But hey, change the television channel and wait for that golden opportunity.
I chose to proactively counteract the push. Just me though.
5
u/creamilinisoup 13h ago
i didn’t insinuate that at all. you’re the one who immediately jumped to assuming they wanted to be violent when nobody suggested that in the first place which has nothing to do with you campaigning for Brown
-2
u/Creatively_Distinct 13h ago
The “I wish a fascist came to my door” made it sound like the poster would do more than OP. Sorry if I jumped to assumptions that exceeded the intent of giving that fascist a good piece of his mind. Certainly presumptive of me. I simply read into the response that his/her firm verbal lashing would have more impact.

u/Financial-Horror-116 13h ago

It was Mid October of 2022 and my stepdad, daughter who was nine at the time, and myself were at this annual pre-Halloween Parade in one of the towns here in Pennsylvania. Somebody from the RNC booth there came up to him and asked if he wanted to learn more about Doug Mastriano, the GOP candidate for governor who Josh Shapiro ended up defeating by a large margin. He said no in a short manner and kept walking lol. I saw the look on the woman’s face and it was hysterical. Almost like she just lost her best friend.

I took my Dad to a Cavs playoff game a couple years back.
Some guys were camped out front with a table and approached us on our way to the Arena.
“You two want to hear why RFK Jr should be your vote for president?”
Me: “Haha fuck no.”
Dad: “You know I don’t like hearing you swear like that but that time it was appropriate.”

My kid voted Republican to attempt to skew things in the primaries.
The influx of paper political garbage mail from the GOP is insane. It goes directly into recycling, so maybe it can be used for toilet paper next.

This happened to me as well. The company that they work for. Was given access to voting registries and records. Which I thought was private information. I just talked to him about the first energy scandal. I didn't even know about Husted taking money from Les Wexner at the time.

Yes, obviously the most important part of "having morals and values" is immediately going to brag about how moral and valued you are.

A simple google search would help pop the Reddit bubble. Here is who he donated to.
Notable Democratic recipients or related entities included:
• Chuck Schumer (thousands of dollars in the 1990s via his campaigns and affiliated joint fundraising committees; Schumer later said he would donate an equivalent amount to anti-sex-trafficking and anti-violence groups).
• Hillary Clinton’s 1999 joint fundraising committee ($20,000).
• Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign ($1,000, with additional broader ties reported).
• John Kerry, Chris Dodd, Richard Gephardt, and others.
• Democratic National Committee (DNC), Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and related committees (tens of thousands combined in earlier years; some older DNC amounts were reported as unreturned in later coverage). 7
u/sirimuyo 13h ago
Did a simple google search tell your dumb ass what party he was registered with?
Edit to add: why’d you leave out the republicans he also donated to?
-5
u/Upbeat_Respond9250 Toledo 13h ago
His party affiliation isn’t public knowledge. What is well-documented is his pattern of political giving: federal records show the large majority of his contributions (roughly $139k–$147k) went to Democratic candidates and committees from the late 1980s/early 1990s through about 2003, versus ~$18k to Republicans.
6
u/sirimuyo 13h ago
So you have no point and no argument. His party affiliation isn’t public knowledge because he didn’t have one. So you can’t say he was a Democrat. Most wealthy people donate to both parties because they want a favorable outcome to whoever wins. What’s not clicking in your head?
0
u/Upbeat_Respond9250 Toledo 11h ago
Obviously he donated to democrats by a margin of 8 to 1. You put your money towards your values.
1
u/sirimuyo 9h ago
lol no you don’t you put your money where your interests are. Values have nothing to do with wealth CLEARLY. At the time he lived in NY, which is typical Democrat run. Throwing money on the D candidate in a blue state is an easy gamble.
What you SHOULD be focused on is which party gave Epstein a plea deal to avoid federal sex trafficking charges. They weren’t Democrats….
0
u/GnomeOnReddit 11h ago
Even if he was not an officially registered member of any party, it was clear which party he favored by how much he donated. If it was reversed and he heavily donated to Republicans I know you would never stop bringing it up. But since it's the other way around, you have to invent endless excuses instead.

u/Esquire_Dan13 13h ago
Then why are you defending him and the people protecting those who trafficked children with him?
First Trump campaigned on releasing the Epstein files. Then they didn’t exist. Then they were on Bondi’s desk. Then they didn’t. Then they were to be released, only they weren’t. Then a fraction of the files were released but so heavily redacted they couldn’t be read.
Now Todd Blanche is announcing “We will not prosecute any predators in the files.” Sounds like Trump’s guys are on the side of Epstein’s estate.
1
u/Warm_Ad26 11h ago
I'm not?

u/Esquire_Dan13 8h ago
Just FYI my response was not to you but the Guardian of Pedophiles in the thread.
-1
u/Upbeat_Respond9250 Toledo 11h ago
Release them all. I don’t care bring all them down. Remember Biden and Obama could have also released them and chose not to. My point is the OP is misguided to think it’s just a Republican issue.
2
u/Esquire_Dan13 11h ago
It’s a Republican issue because one particular Republican president is implicated in the files by at least one teenage victim who says Trump sexually assaulted her and Trump has repeatedly fired anyone who gets close to the files who does so much as even acknowledge the physical presence of victims when they’re in the room.
And whenever a single Republican does anything to shed light on the issue- à la Thomas Massie- they get destroyed… on Trump’s orders.
So yes, frankly it’s a uniquely Republican phenomenon. No one cares about Bill effing Clinton. There is one person in the Oval Office right now who could prosecute every single predator in the files. He won’t. We know exactly why.
He knows he’ll go down with them.

Except Republicans are in control of our state and federal government and refuse to address the files. Who’s more at fault?
Regardless of affiliation, anyone in those files needs to be investigated.

Then why is it Republicans that won’t release the files? I don’t give a shit who the fuck did it. They need to be held accountable. And they will be release eventually. Can’t fucking wait. Can you?

That's the whole thing. If there were tons of democrats in there they wouldn't hesitate to release them all. So therefore......who is in them??
