Hello, i’ve been working bedside full time job for a while.
Always short staff, hard process for approved time off, very busy, low break and lots of pt.
I do 12h shifts DDNN.
I’ve been becoming depressed and regretting being a nurse. I’m a new nurse but can’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life. I absolutely hate nursing .
There’s no way there’s nurses work for years.
How do you guys do it? I can barely handle it .
I wanna leave bedside but idk what to do . Just miserable

I am a laid-back person and never want to put pressure on a student (watching over them like a hawk for every interaction with a patient). How do I balance being easygoing while ensuring the student is demonstrating safe practice.

Hi everyone, I just finished my bridging program @ GBC and was wondering if anyone has finished their full time post diploma BScN program @ Toronto Met? What was your experience like? I know that the classes are all in person but how often do you have to go in, are all the exams in person also? And how often are we doing clinicals? Are the clinical placements bad ? Thanks for your feedback :) just want to better prepare myself mentally for this September.

Also does anyone know if they do lab the first week of school ? Thank you !!!

Hi all! I’m posting this question here to get some insight on working as a nurse psychotherapist as CNO has allowed RNs to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy, granted they have the knowledge, skill set and experience to safely do so.
If anyone here has successfully done so, I would love to chat and get some advice!!
I have come across many nurse psychotherapists, however the pathway to becoming one is quite vague.

I’m currently pregnant and work as a nurse. I initially requested informal reassignment from certain known high-risk/infectious patients because of the risk to pregnancy. I was asking for the same type of reassignment I have seen other pregnant staff receive on my unit.
After someone on my unit complained about me requesting these reassignments, my manager told me I needed formal medical documentation. I obtained a doctor’s note outlining the restrictions and provided it as requested.
My employer has now denied the temporary accommodation and removed me from the schedule entirely. Their reasoning was essentially that respiratory season is coming and they cannot guarantee I won’t be exposed to illness through visitors or coworkers.
The problem is that I never asked them to guarantee I would never become sick or be exposed to illness at work. My request was specifically to be reassigned once a patient is known to have an infection/high-risk condition covered by my restriction. Obviously nobody can avoid an exposure that nobody knows exists.
I also explained that I am not asking to avoid coworkers, visitors, or the workplace generally. I was asking to reduce a known and avoidable occupational exposure by not being assigned direct care of those particular patients.
What concerns me further is the difference in treatment. Other pregnant nurses have received these types of reassignments informally without being required to provide medical documentation. I have text messages with another pregnant employee confirming that she was not required to provide a doctor’s note and has been reassigned when necessary. Management told me they were unaware these informal reassignments were happening.
So now, after being the person someone complained about, I was required to provide medical documentation, complied with that request, had the accommodation denied anyway, and have been taken off the schedule rather than simply being reassigned from the specific patients identified by my restriction.
My union is involved, but I’m trying to understand my options independently as well. Does this potentially raise an Ontario Human Rights Code/duty-to-accommodate issue or pregnancy discrimination issue? Can an employer remove me from work entirely because they say they can’t eliminate every possible source of infection when that isn’t what my medical restriction actually requires?
I’m not looking for anyone to determine my case based on a Reddit post — I’d just appreciate advice on what avenues I should be looking at (union grievance, HRTO, employment/human-rights lawyer, etc.) and whether anyone has dealt with something similar.

Are there any nurses from Canada that have been hired on with Mercor? Is it possible? I completed the assessment for Data annotation almost 2 weeks ago and it still says “thanks for completing the assessment” so I’m assuming I didn’t pass.

I was wondering whether you can decline a job offer after signing the offer letter prior to start date without consequences. Will there be problems with CNO good standing?

I received a job offer for a position in another city and my start date is in November, but I have an interview scheduled for a position in my city where I did my consolidation placement. And i'd much rather stay in my city and the unit is better too

Has anyone been in this situation and have any advice? Should I sign the offer letter or not sign and take my chances with my consolidation placement hospital.

I’m currently working as a community PSW and would like to move into long-term care or a hospital setting. I’m considering taking a medication-related course to strengthen my resume.

George Brown College offers a Medication Management course for around $225, while Community Support Training Solutions offers a Medication Administration course for only $25. I’m wondering if these courses have similar value in the job market, or if employers tend to prefer one over the other.

Has anyone taken either of these courses or used one when applying for PSW positions in LTC or hospitals? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and whether the course made any difference in your job search.

Back story, I'm a nurse of 13 years but have moved back to palliative care after several years of 'soft nursing', and for the first time as a bedside nurse.

I have a long term relationship with a man who is really *not* into nursing. He's grossed out easily, doesn't much trust the medical establishment (he has an auto immune disorder that was missed for 25 years and suffered while nobody thought to test for it, so doesn't trust medicine), and also can't really relate to the "mean girl " attitude nurses seem to encounter regularly, and as a man, isn't super empathetic....

Because of this change in my role to bedside nursing, and returning to a field I love, but always have more to learn, I'm feeling the growing pains and find myself wanting to chat about about my experiences and not really having that person to speak to...

Hi ontario nurses! im looking for advice from anyone who has experience with Ontario nursing admissions, especially mature students or people who started without a high school diploma.

I’m over 21 and I do not have a high school diploma or any high school credits. However, I completed a year long PSW program and graduated with high grades. I want to become an RN directly through a 4-year BScN. I’m not interested in doing an RPN program first and then bridging to RN because I’m trying to get to RN as quickly as possible.

Right now, I’m trying to decide between two options:

Option 1: TVO ILC

I could take the individual Grade 11/12 prerequisites required for BScN programs, such as English, Biology, Chemistry and Math, plus any additional courses required by the schools I apply to.

The advantage seems to be that these would be actual high school prerequisites that could potentially allow me to apply to multiple BScN programs across Ontario. If I don't get a high enough mark in a course, I could potentially retake it to improve my grade?

The problem is that I don't learn particularly well in a self-directed online environment. I tried ILC before and had trouble understanding how everything worked, so I'm concerned about taking difficult courses like Grade 12 Biology and Chemistry this way. but maybe it’s just user error and i don’t know how to use the website right lol

Option 2: Conestoga Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees

This is a 1-year, 2-semester, in-person program at Conestoga. It seems much more suited to how I learn because there are instructors, labs and a structured classroom environment. It also covers subjects like biology, chemistry, math and English/communication and is specifically designed to prepare students for health programs.

The major concern I have is that Conestoga specifically recognizes its Pre-Health program as a pathway into its own BScN, but I’m not sure how many other Ontario BScN programs would accept the Conestoga Pre-Health certificate, especially since I don't have an OSSD. so i really want the ability to apply to as many BScN programs as possible not just conestoga.

I don't want to spend a year doing Pre-Health and then discover that my only realistic BScN option is Conestoga. I would ideally like to apply to multiple Ontario BScN programs so I have more than one opportunity to get accepted.

My goal is to get into a BScN as quickly as realistically possible, while still getting high enough grades to be competitive. I’m willing to retake prerequisite courses if necessary to improve my grades.

For people who know about Ontario nursing admissions:

Any Canadian nurses further their education in the US? Specifically New York?

I’m an RPN based in Ontario, I came across some info online that you can get your ADN in certain US states, work as an RN and eventually get your BScN. This would be an alternate to trying to bridge in Ontario.

Has anyone gone this route? If so, what was your experience?

Hello! I am an LPN in another province and I am planning on moving to Toronto within the next few months with my partner. I know nursing jobs appear to be few and far between right now, but would anybody be willing to steer me in the right direction? I have absolutely no idea where to start.

Am curious. My understanding under the ESA is that if you choose not to take your vacation and your employer doesn't force you to take it (which is within their right) then whatever vacation cannot be carried over to the next year must be paid out. But given hospital budget deficits I would not be surprised if hospitals are forcing employees to take their vacation more and more, the way private employers commonly do.

Anyone have an experience of being an RN at a hospital and not choosing a vacation time and so having your manager forcibly schedule it for you?

I got a NGG position at HHS and its about 2h from where I live. Does anyone know if I accept the position whether I have to commit to a certain amount of time with the organization? Can I leave before the 1 year mark after orientation? Or at least drop down to pt or casual? Has anyone else done this?

Im only wondering this in case I find a position closer to where I live during this time cause i'd prefer to move back to my city.

I’m seeking advice on whether I should do rn or rpn with possibility for upgrading to rn later on. Any suggestions or sharing experiences are welcome!

For context, I am 31 and currently working in a factory in Windsor with little to no room for advancement. I make $31/ hr and have options for overtime. I have a 4 year old daughter and am in a comfortable relationship with a partner who is supportive.

My reasons for wanting to switch careers is I would I like to do something more meaningful and challenging. I have been here for almost 10 years and I don’t really want to work here another 30+ years. I don’t think I’d be fulfilled. Nursing appeals to me because I like helping people, I’m empathetic, I like the idea of being in the medical field, and I’m looking for something that will challenge me and keep me busy.

I’m undecided on if I want to be an Rn or an Rpn because of the time difference in schooling and the reward difference. I could do either realistically, but I’m leaning towards wanting to have another child before im 40. I have to do a year of pre health so it’s either 3 or 5 years of schooling. Rpn sounds like an easier option to do because of the length of time. I could have a child and then return eventually to bridge into rn. But I worry about 1) not finding an rn job as this sub indicates it’s quite difficult and 2) not being accepted into bridging as I’ve been told it’s difficult to be accepted. I also worry that as an rpn I will have difficulty finding a job that pays similar or higher than what I make now. I would take a lesser paying job but I wouldn’t want to be below $27-28/hr.

Please give me some input!
