Parking

When attempting to purchase a parking pass, I couldn’t interact with the page due to bad connection. Now I am on the waiting list. I am a first year student living in dorms. Am I screwed? I really needed to buy one and I’m worried I won’t find a place to park it long term.

There’s a few street spots like RIGHT off campus you can park. As long as you have legal registration, you can stay parked for several days without having to move. I used to park off campus my 1st & 2nd year while in the dorms. I didn’t drive a ton, so it wasn’t a huge problem.

That said, those spots are a HOT commodity. If you have to leave mid-day, there’s a strong possibility that the spot won’t be there when you get back. I’d typically pay the $4 for a few hours on campus & wait until evening to move my car off campus when parking was much easier.

The spots are:
Orchard Ave between 35th & 30th.
11th between Jackson & the Train Tracks

Anywhere else within several blocks of campus in my experience requires a neighborhood zone parking permit issued by the city.

Is a neighborhood zone parking permit something I can get (and if I can would it be worth it)

Only if you own/rent one of the houses/apartments in that zone. You’d have to be on a lease for a place. Otherwise you cannot.

I lived on 21st for a few years & I just took my lease to the public works department. They saw I was on it & gave me a little sticker to put on my car bumper showing that I lived in that zone, meaning I could park on the street for longer than 2 hours at a time.

Yeah I don’t know either. I’m transfer student, so that would’ve been a huge set back for me. Maybe they set a few aside for out of state transfers🤷‍♂️

Call around to nearby apartment complexes and see if they’ll rent out an unused parking spot.

Consider a bicycle. Corvallis is quite small, and biking is easy with all the amazing bicycle infrastructure. Get a good lock, and get some rain clothes and you will be amazed at how freeing this is. I've lived in Corvallis for years without a car: it's liberating, and a great way to meet new people who live the bike lifestyle.
