For those of you who already know what Artfight is: feel free to share a link to your profile in the comments (or fill out one of their team templates provided in the post), and look for potential targets! You can also use this thread to ask Artfight related questions, though please keep in mind we are not affiliated with Artfight - to be 100% sure that you are receiving correct information, it might be better to have a look at their rules/beginners guide or to reach out to an Artfight moderator :>
For those of you who don't: What is Artfight?
In simple terms, it's a mass art trade event that starts July 1st of every year. Artists share their OCs to be "attacked" by other people in the form of fanart, and respond in kind by drawing other people's OCs!
People can join one of two teams, and each "attack" they draw will net their team points based on a variety of criteria.
Check out the Artfight Website or their beginners guide for more information on the matter, and please, carefully read the rules on attacking and properly tagging your art before joining.
Remember that this event is all fun and games, and every artist can join no matter their skill level!
TL;DR - If an user on Reddit (or other sites) cold DMs you, asking if you want to commission them or similar. It's almost certainly a scam. Don't give them money, and report the DM to Reddit as spam so they can hopefully be taken care of, and so nobody else gets scammed by them.
There's been a bit of an epidemic on Reddit recently of scammers using DMs and chats to rope people into giving money to them. If anyone on Reddit messages you out of nowhere asking you to commission them or similar, they're almost certainly a scammer. This is part of a massive scam ring that's taken root on multiple sites, Reddit, Instagram, Discord, X/Twitter, etc.
Actual artists will almost NEVER message people out of the blue and ask you to commission them. Don't fall for it, don't give them money. They may pressure you to give them money, offer discounts and/or claim they need the money for an emergency, DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY.
Those in this scam ring tend to use stolen art from other artists, use AI, or have a very particular artstyle (See below for specific artstyle). They also tend to, but not always, use intrusive watermarks, one that comes up a lot is the "PRIVEW" watermark.
Examples of scammer art that may be seen on their profile.
As a sub, r/OriginalCharacter bans these users when they pop up and post on the subreddit, but unfortunately we can't keep them out of people's DMs. If you see one of them post on the subreddit, please report them, if they're a newer account it's easier to catch them and get them nuked by Reddit than if they've been allowed to take root and exist for months.
Examples of DMs people have received from these scammers, so you know what to look for:
I've been drawing her in a lot of Hollister and Aero stuff, so I thought I would change it up a bit and give her a top I own personally~ What do you think?
A Hyenic Fauna folk who works as a melee Brawler for a mercenary group at the Savanahs known as the “Rhode Mercs”
The Rhode Mercs are a Band of mercenaries that are commonly stationed around the Savanahs to fight for financial gain. A rough bunch commonly consists of Hyenic Fauna Folk (Hyena-humans)
Rokka is a hyena lady who wants problems always, causing indiscriminatory trouble to everyone around her regardless if they are her neighbors, friends or foes. Trouble is her driving force to get by everyday throughout her life.
However, Due to a high male-to-female ratio of 1/37 within the Fauna folk population (every Fauna variant), she had only saw two throughout her lifetime, and they weren’t even her own kin. Therefore, she behaves differently to any male she ever meets (regardless of they are Fauna, Flora, or regular human). But there haven’t been records of her to happen yet. Only time will tell
She excels in Survival in the Savanahs. But ironically prefers the most impractical choice of clothing. The likely reason is her over-confidence with her tough skin being resistant against blades and bullets. Hence the result of the lack of scars throughout her body. Or perhaps it’s just her free-will.
Thank you for your time reading and have a good one! 🤘
My friends asked me if I could draw her D&D character, because she didn’t want to use AI.
She ended up liking it so much, she gave me co-ownership for her oc :D
(Sry for all the reuploads. Reddit keeps timing out during the upload)
Been taking a hiatus from posting since school started a few weeks, but decided to post this lovely doodle I made of my character, named Realistic BTW, in school today 🤭🤭
I have quite a bit written on his story and a blurry idea of his life but I still don't know how to formulate his personality so...
Ask him a question in character, or not, and he will respond! A little bit of background is that he was a captive for a long time during the 18th century as an "exotic." Take that how you may.
Your questions, remember, are literally limitless. Ask him what he thinks about your oc, what he thinks about this or that. Ask him something personal, he could respond truthfully or lie. Thanks.
