The 1st millennium, when the church was united, ending evil practices like slavery, infanticide, concubinage, and pederasty everywhere it went, it was spreading literacy and peace, before the crusades or paid indulgences or inquisitions, on and on. Oh no, the horror...

Not exactly, the dark ages were between AD 500 and 1000. The "Reformation" began in 1517 and continued into the 1600s. It decided nations, split families and resulted in the deaths of between 7 million and 17 million people. Countries that had been allied for generations were suddenly split on whether they bowed to the Pope in Rome or they followed the teaching of men who rebelled against his authority but didn't seek out the source of Christian theology and belief but instead made up their own interpretation often adopting a legalism that caused rifts in their own churches and split into even more "denominations"

Edit: They were certainly dark times, but not officially the Dark Ages lol

Before the slaughter that happened throughout Europe during the reformation as the roman catholic church splintered into infinite branches of protestantism to include some of the most dangerous and evil cults to ever exist.
