If The Penguin was a theatrical movie, could Cristin Milioti AND Colin Farrell have won Best Actress/Actor at the 2025 Oscars?
The actual 2025 acting winners were Mikey Madison for Anora and Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, with the other nominees being Demi Moore, Cynthia Erivo, Fernanda Torres, Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes and Sebastian Stan.
However, if The Penguin had been retooled into a 2–3 hour prestige crime film, with Sofia Falcone and Oz Cobb being the two leads...
For Milioti, the role of Sofia would've seen her play one of the most dramatic arcs, consisting of trauma, grief, rage, psychological deterioration and transformation into a increasingly dangerous person. She'd also need to make Sofia sympathetic, frightening and reveal most of her psychology via facial expressions and body language, along with the occasional breakdowns and confrontations that would be great awards-reel fodder.
Meanwhile, Farrell's greatest benefit would come from a completely different approach; the prosthetics that form the core of Oz's new look would've allowed him to utilise his voice, accent, walk, posture, mannerisms and psychology to create Oz. He'd also be able to utilise his range to make Oz a pathetic, vulnerable, manipulative and terrifying figure, often in the same scene.
So in short, two completely different showcases for a pair of actors who've already had their showcases rewarded; Milioti winning the Emmy for her work as Sofia, and Farrell winning the Golden Globe and getting an Emmy nomination for his work as Oz.
The interesting factor would come down to how each would've measured up to the 2025 fields. Milioti would've been competing against Madison's naturalism, Moore's physical commitment, Erivo's musical showpiece and Torres' restraint, and Farrell would've been going up against Brody's epic drama, Chalamet's musical/biographical transformation, Domingo's emotional reserve, Fiennes' subtlety and Stan's biographical transformation.
But with all that said, I think the performances would've been incredibly strong showcases for both actors, so here's the hypothetical;
Also Both of them scored big during award seasons winning Golden Globes,Bafta,Emmys...
So my question is If The Penguin was a theatrical feature and Sofia and Oz were its two lead performances, would Cristin Milioti and Colin Farrell could have BOTH won Best Actress and Best Actor at the 2025 Oscars?
Would you have given either of them the win over Madison and Brody?
