I simply do not seem to understand why someone would ever subject themselves to fishing in the world tree.
Obviously, fishing in the world tree is pretty difficult. The minigame is basically unbeatable unless you have the legendary depresso fishing pole and a fully max condensed team consisting of all the pals that boost your fishing (essentially just Whalaska, Whalaska Ignis, Gloopie, and Jeliette). I happen to have all of these things making fishing in the world tree a breeze.
But do the rewards for fishing in the world tree not just… suck? Like, you get a ton of coralum which is pretty much useless by the time you’ve actually progressed to the world tree. You also have the chance of getting some work suitability books, awakening materials, and schematics. I’ve found that you can also get some ancient civ cores and ancient relics, but the drop rate and the amount you actually get seems laughably low compared to just going around the world tree and killing pals to farm ancient relics, which in turn would net you a ton of ancient civ cores.
Which leads me to my main question: why would anyone fish in the world tree as opposed to just farming ancient relics by killing pals in the world tree with a dedicated team that boosts drops?
Almost every single drop that you can get from fishing (except coralum which is virtually useless at this stage of the game) can be obtained through ancient relics, and you can farm ancient relics way faster using the method mentioned above. So why would I ever fish for things like schematics, work suitability books, or awakening materials, when I could just farm up 3-5x the amount of ancient relics by killing pals and getting the drops from the recycler?
And the worst part, in my opinion, is that even with all the fishing pals in your party giving you buffs and the legendary fishing rod, you still have to actually pay attention during the minigame. When you’re farming ancient relics by killing pals, you can more or less turn your brain off and do other things during the process, whereas fishing still requires your undivided attention

I played a little bit prior to 1.0, to about lv 40. I did a dungeon or two during that time but the reward didn't feel worth it at the time. I'm lv 60 in my new playthrough and haven't been in a single one. Am I missing out on much?

Every human character loses 1000000000000000000 points for their stupid fucking Borderlands style splash screen intros. I've never felt a more visceral hatred upon seeing an artistic choice before.

Fishing especially; in this game, it is like lootboxes except it's not predatory and almost always rewarding.
