A new paramedic was hired at our ambulance company. Right off the bat, the guy started telling everyone he was a Navy SEAL. He would tell us about these wild 911 calls he supposedly went on, but the majority of them didn’t make any sense.

Oh, and apparently he was sleeping with just about every patient’s daughter or caretaker, as well as other female medics. We figured out pretty quickly that he was a pathological liar.

When it came to actually being in the back of the ambulance, it became obvious that he had no idea what he was doing. He would try to dodge calls or tell his partner to do everything. Whenever his partner asked him a question, he would simply respond, “You should know,” and refuse to answer.

About a week went by, and one day I saw him angrily walking out of the office and leaving. Apparently, he was going home for good.

It turned out the guy was never a paramedic. I guess he either photo shopped or used AI to make his license.

You’d think verifying someone’s paramedic license would be pretty high on HR’s checklist when hiring a paramedic, but apparently that was asking for too much.

Recently I've been in a fire academy and it's been great I've enjoyed it but it makes me wonder if firefighting is what I wanna do as a career or maybe just volunteer and go get my EMT-B and then paramedic but I'm scared of jumping into EMS and not enjoying it as much as I think I will. But I also wanna be a bodybuilder so EMS would be a lot easier to handle that then being a firefighter and on top of that paramedics start at 31$ a hour down here or 59k a year with 40 hours but they also have built in overtime where fire starts out at 45k.

Question for those who have gotten their Bachelor's and/or progressed to higher levels of provider.

Is there a meaningful difference between "Paramedicine" and "Emergency Medicine" degrees? Either in the curriculum itself, the direct opportunity while being a medic or with how the are viewed by PA programs or Med Schools?

Am posting this for my paramedic SO. We sent our 4 Z Vents in for PM, all 4 were sent back to the company with "internal case failures". Anyone else having this issue? Note:; Zoll purchased Impact (company) and Zoll changed the color of the case and called it the Z Vent.

Hi, im currently in my second year of college doing health and social care, i’m looking at universities, and doing my personal statement, etc. But i was wondering if there’s another, possibly better, pathway i could take as i don’t usually retain information well unless i get to put it into practice. Y’all I’m a brand new paramedic student. I’m juggling a full time job as an emt and also taking A&P2. I’m struggling passing my exams. I am barely scraping by. I’m not dumb I study so hard y’all but it’s not translating through my exams. I gotta get better for my own sanity. What do I do successful paramedics? Is anyone like me and sucks at taking test?

I see people recommend St John and Red cross but they are expensive and I found Vancouver First aid https://vancouverfirstaid.ca/ to be a bit budget friendly . Could you please recommend? If you are a paramedic in the ER, what do you normally do? Do you have the same responsibilities as an RN? How much are you getting paid compared to on the truck? ( USA). I was a new paramedic (seasoned EMT) when I had a baby and decided to stay home until he was 18 months. I then went back to work PrN nights and weekends and it was hard. I had another baby and I'd like to go back to work PRN again but hate the idea of being on the truck again. My license is still active and I've been thinking about working in the ER, only if the pay makes sense to be away from my little ones.

unfortunately, even though being a paramedic is awesome, running 911s isn’t exactly the best long term career with the obvious issues that are talked about here everyday. besides the obvious nursing, what are other health careers that are easier to get into with certifications and experience you get as being a medic?

PAC’s/Hemodynamic monitoring I’ve got down to a T but definitely could be more knowledgeable in Neuro. I’ve been passing the Pocket Prep mock exams and have used Gwennys book for practice exam questions. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I take the NREMT for Paramedic level tomorrow morning. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for the new NREMT exam I took my EMT basic twice passed on the second time, I took my EMT -advance passed on the first time however, these were both before the updated test.

Hello, I’m a student Paramedic and I have been advised by my tutors to buy a pair of Raptors as I struggle being left handed to use the provided cheap pairs, I am wondering if there are any left handed paramedics that can perhaps give me some advice on if they are more comfortable to use as a lefty despite being a right handed design.

I’m a paramedic student but currently working EMS, I just finished cardiology but this one threw me off a bit. I got this ecg on a 56y/o male with history of CHF, kidney disease and IV drug abuse. C/c of uti.

I see IVCD, maybe right atrial enlargement (p-pulmonale?) and some LBBB signs. Prolonged PRI, wide QRS, josephsons sign?

There’s just a lot going on and I’m a little confused on it, or what the best way to interpret it would be? It’s hard since I know all the individual signs but when multiple conduction issues occur at once I get blurry on it.

Any advice? I’d mostly like to get better at isolating individual cardiac abnormalities when there’s multiple occurring at once.

It allows you to create a rhythm strip or 12-lead, with physiological modelling underneath, with realistic renders and a lot of tuning possibilities etc to get just the ECG that is suitable for your teaching case/sim etc. No AI generation of ECG involved.

Tweaks and findings stack and there is also possibility to split up an ECG in several sequences. Pacing, ischemia, escape rhythms all follow logical behavior.

For those of us preparing a lecture who don't have the time or possibility to dig out old patient ECGs and fiddle with covering up patient identifiers, writing a textbook (and dont want to pay licencing fees for images from the web), or want dynamic ECG outputs during a sim case.

This was a side-project that turned serious. Yes, it is commercial but I hope someone that teaches needs this and wants to try it out!

My mum has epilepsy and I care for her. It always scares me when she has a particularly long or vigorous seizure as she has only had epilepsy for a few months so it is new to me too, so I will call an ambulance. The paramedics always ask me when they get here (still seizing or not) whether they can view my mums medical history. I am 16 sometimes they ask me my age and sometimes they don’t but it is always weird to me when I give consent on my mums behalf rather then the other way around because I am still a child. I obviously always allow them to look because I want them to help but I was just wondering if they need to ask, and how often do people say no and why?

What should I choose as I'm confused need suggestions if i should do bams or bpt and what are my chances of getting an actual job after graduation with a pay that won't 🫠

I’ve been considering making the move to Alaska to pursue a job as a flight medic, and wanted to get in here to see if anyone has any experience with the various flight agencies in the area. For some context, I would be applying for my first flight job. Some questions I have include:

1. Does anyone know much about the North Slope Borough flight medic position? It seems interesting as it also includes fire suppression and search and rescue operations.

2. Are there any companies to avoid?

3. How is the culture?

4. What company would you recommend applying for?
