Hi all. I’m curious to hear from pediatricians practicing in Florida. What’s it like practicing in Florida as a general pediatrician, especially with the lack of vaccine mandates?

Hi! Can anyone compare Pediatric Hematology/Oncology vs General Pediatrics in terms of salary, lifestyle, and job opportunities? Is the extra fellowship training financially worth it?
For someone currently receiving General Pediatrics offers around $265–300K, how does post-fellowship Hem/Onc compensation realistically compare? Is the salary difference significant enough to justify the additional fellowship training?

PCPs how are yall able to keep up with your packed clinic schedules? I’m a PGY2 on my primary care block (interested in becoming PCP) and these 15 min slots are turning me off from primary care tbh

Find myself ALWAYS late to visits. On average 30-40 min late. Few reasons for this—

1. Pts arrive late and we don’t have a strict late policy
   
2. Complexity of pts
   
3. So many concerns at each visit that actually require time to discuss topics

Any tips? Does it get better? Tell me now…
I’m often catching up on notes + responding to inbox/returning phone calls until 9-10pm

And yes i always prechart and I’m still behind.

I’m trying to find a good resource that breaks down the different types of infant formula (Similac, Enfamil, etc.), their indications, and when you would choose one type over another.

I especially struggle with remembering which formulas are partially vs. extensively hydrolyzed, when hydrolyzed formulas are indicated, and how to decide which type of formula is appropriate in different situations.

Does anyone have a good chart, guide, website, or other resource that makes this easier to understand and remember? Any tips or tricks for learning the different formula types would also be really appreciated!

Hello! I’m an M4 med student on a NICU rotation rn. Feeling a little lost. What are good resources y’all would recommend for a med student to read so they can seem semi-coherent on NICU rounds?

We opened our ped practice about 2mos ago and rn most of what we make is going back into expenses.. i think we have so much staff. Lol We have offc manager, assistants, marketing where the manage emails and socmed ads m, IT, etc, I know it takes time to build a practice, but i really love to hear what actually worked for you. How did you get steady patients? And what expenses did you cut, which is not worth it..

Brand new NICU fellow here just getting off a service month, was genuinely baffled by the behavior of some of the older NPs in the NICU. They came across as untrusting, unhelpful and would openly bash criticize plans during rounds and try to put fellows and residents down. I tried my level best to try to be polite and friendly but there was no reciprocation or communication from their end. I had previously heard of toxic midlevel behavior in the NICU in general but this was quite surprising and a stressful environment to work in.

I did understand that I was a new fellow and they needed some time to get used to a new person on the unit, but the open hostility really confused me. It was just some of the older ones, not everyone was this way. Does anyone have any insight or advice on how to handle this? I did try to bring it up with leadership but it seems like a chronic problem. It genuinely brought my morale down when someone openly bashed me during rounds, especially for someone who’s just starting to learn.

Hi everyone! I’m currently a PGY-2 in pediatrics and trying to figure out the best resources to use for studying.

I’ve been doing PREP, but honestly, I haven’t found it that helpful so far. I’m considering using AMBOSS as my main question bank/resource, but I’m wondering if it’s actually a good source for a PGY-2 or if I would still need to supplement it with other references.

For those of you who have used AMBOSS during residency:

- Do you think it’s a good resource for PGY-2?

- Is it enough for day-to-day learning and board prep, or do you still rely heavily on other references?

- What resources do you use alongside it?

- How does it compare with PREP?

Hey all, I am planning on going to the AAP conference this year and was just wondering what vibes are like as someone going along. I'm a fourth year medical student applying pediatrics and I've wanted to go for years but the timing just never worked out. I got super lucky and had a week gap between rotations this year and that's exactly when AAP is. I'm not presenting but still think that it would be such a fun oppurtunity based off of what I always hear from others.

My concern is that I'm going alone--no one from my school is going that I know of nor are my friends at other schools. Is there a lot to do as a medical student at AAP? Is it easy to find a buddy or a few friends who may be interested in forming a group and going to events together?

Thought this would be a good place to reach out and find out! I'm super excited but also just an overall anxious girly who likes to have a buddy wherever she goes.

I know pediatrics are the least compensated specialty in medicine. Taxes lower the salary even more. After so many years of grueling hard work is it worth it??? I am interested in gen peds and in the future pediatric hematology oncology. But the pay disparity is getting to me. What's the take home salary of these two? Is it possible to lead comfortable and somewhat wealthy life with this salary? I have my parents and siblings to take care of. Will i be able to own a house and travel with my family with such low pay. This question might sound odd to someone. But i am quite conflicted.

I am a new pediatric attending starting soon, what are the OCPs recommended for irregular menstrual period/contraception?

Hi! Recently switched to applying to pediatrics after having an EM-focused app for much of medical school (was an EMT/FF prior to school). I made the decision sort of last minute and secured only a 4 week elective for the month of August. I'm working towards getting all my LORs. I know pediatrics overall is not that competitive, but im having trouble getting adivce on how top heavy my school list should be.

About me: Honored all my rotations, AOA, unsure what class rank is yet, Step 1 Pass, Step 2 268, three publications (one medical education, two EM-related), pediatrics abstract submitted for fall, two leadership positions, and plenty of volunteer experiences

I'm looking at top programs in the Midwest and not sure if i should use 3/5 of my signals at top programs like CHOP, Cincinnati, NW, Nationwide, etc.

Any advice would be helpful! Trying to add last-minute pediatric-related activities too

Has any pediatrician had success pursuing a non clinical role?

I am a visa requiring IMG, with a low step 2 score of 231. I have no USCE. My YOG is 2022, with 1 year internship and currently PGY-2 in pediatrics. I have 1 paper approved for publication, 2 preprints, and 1 abstract published in a reputable conference. Any advice on how I should proceed in this cycle?
