Procedures

Hi,

What procedures need to be done for outpatient and inpatient pediatric jobs? Please clarify for both settings.

This is a very broad question! It also depends a lot on where you work and the resources you have available.

I'm an employed primary care doc working for a hospital system, the main campus of which is 10-15 miles away. So I don't do much, procedure-wise. I freeze warts and mollusca, take out stitches, sometimes will I&D an abscess, rarely a bladder cath if we don't have an RN in the office that day. That's pretty much it.

Intramuscular and subcutaneous injections for vaccines. Now I'm peds rheum so arthrocentesis and intra articular injections.

This is so variable based on your hospital/role - are you looking at general pediatrician/pediatric hospitalist roles?

Could include suturing, I&D, IM injections, LPs, intubation, UVCs, chest tubes, IUDs, and more.
