News Is Trump's endorsement of Paxton a gift to Democrats in Texas?
Michael Wolff argued on The Daily Beast podcast that Trump's biggest liability heading into the midterms isn't policy; it's his own track record of boosting what Wolff called "unelectable" candidates, pointing directly to impeached Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Wolff said a White House source remains confident Republicans will hold the Texas Senate seat, but conceded the race has become one of the most expensive in the country.
That confidence looks shakier by the week. Democratic nominee James Talarico has out-raised Paxton by roughly four to one, pulling in over $72 million cumulatively compared to Paxton's $16.8 million, according to Texas Tribune reporting. Talarico ended June with more than triple Paxton's cash on hand, and Republicans have reportedly gone quiet on TV while Talarico dominates the airwaves.
Wolff's point lands harder given that math: if Republicans are wrong about Texas after burning resources defending a Trump-picked candidate with genuine baggage, the fallout won't be Democratic strategy. It'll be Trump's own hand-picked disaster, sitting right there in the numbers.

News Should a private tech company change a map label worldwide because one government issued an executive order?
Google Maps is now showing "Lake America" instead of Lake Ontario for U.S. users, and it didn't have to.
The company confirmed the switch Saturday, following an executive order Trump signed August 27 ordering Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to update the federal government's official naming database. Google chose to follow that change; it wasn't legally required to.
Canadian users still see "Lake Ontario" on their maps, and everyone outside the U.S. and Canada sees both names. Not everyone's playing along, either; MapQuest is keeping the original name.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung couldn't contain his excitement, cheering online: "It's official! LAKE AMERICA on Google Maps."
The move comes on the heels of Trump's 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods, and it's not his first time doing this; he pulled the same move on the Gulf of Mexico, renaming it "Gulf of America" earlier in his term.
