Fiercly guarding their plastic eggs

I adopted a male ring neck dove about a month ago, he has a nice cage, plenty of toys and a shelf in my room with food that she can have all to herself. In the day she has free roam of my room and sometimes I will let him fly around the rest of the house for a change of scenery. Although I do have cats so I prefer to keep him safe in my room. He seemed more open to being held in the beginning but is now very scared of me. He will perch near me and be close, but whenever I reach my hands slowly twords him or put my face close to him, he immediately flys away. Because he is scared of my hands he won’t accept treats from me. The treats I have are amaranth seeds and millet and for regular food I have a high quality seed mix. I found out he has feather lice so we went to the vet a twice for treatment. I really want to give him the best life and be able to bond with him but I’m not sure what to do, please help!!

It's short for Keyboard/Keeboard. One of his most favorite spots to loaf on is the keyboard and yes he will press the keys.

We gave it water and now we're letting it rest

What should we do next?

I've been monitoring this behavior for about 2-3 weeks now and am in need of advice. My birb is a female about 16 years old and I'm not sure if this is a neurological issue or old age. Here's and my other 3 have been on a primary diet of Hagen pigeon and dove seed.

About 3-4 weeks ago she laid a clutch of eggs, she also started molting and a few days/week after this she appeared to start having spastic sessions where she'd appear to lose balance and flop around her cage. I had some crushed oyster shell in her cage ground to about the size of seed (separate bowl) so she can go to it as needed for calcium as I understand how depleting egg-laying can be. Around this time I started supplementing her water with Lafaber's bird vitamin in her water dish while providing yet another separate fresh water bowl. Keep in mind, over the years she has shown occasional behavior like this and I've taken her to blue pearl's avian doctor a few times and after x-rays and examination (no blood work), no cause was found. I figure a deficiency of some sort (oyster shells and Lafeber's vitamins) and decided to just watch her carefully. She's under a UVB bulb 8ish hours a day.

About a week ago it appeared no progress was being made so I moved her to a small hospital cage with a heating pad on half to allow the ground temp to be around 80-85 degrees. This was my attempt to isolate any external factors by changing everything between old and new cage, even added an activated carbon air purifier to the room. Also note: she's always lived in a cage directly next to another white ringneck and a mourning pigeon; neither of these birds are exhibiting any problems at all.

I started observing her feces closer and weighing her each morning. Feces varied from normal to dry to sometimes a little less liquid, etc but nothing me or my friend called out as consistently abnormal. See pictures.

I'm at a point where I'm thinking I need to have an expert evaluate her tomorrow due to increased frequency of the spastic/balance episodes. I have to say it wasn't neglect or lack of care for why I haven't taken her in yet; reason so far is in the past unless they have blood work it's mostly been best guesses from xrays and what info I was able to record, as well as her having a history of balance and general "clumsiness". I've spent a ton of cash at emergency vet visits for her and this was my best attempt to observe and record before a vet visit. I've uploaded some relevant pictures and short videos from the cam I put on her. Looking for both some advice and theories from others about what might be going on. Thanks for reading.

Im new to this sub

I have a mourning dove that my grandmother rescued.

Today I was cleaning his cage and a loud noise scared him and flew straight into a wall.

He hit his head and its bleeding, also lost some feathers.

There's no vet appointment until tomorrow.

He is eating and looks normal. But I want to know if there's something I should look until we go to the vet.

all she does is eat, sleep on me, peck at me, watch tv with me and be FAT and USELESS and i love her for it. i take her almost everywhere with me and if someone i know sees me without her then they assume something happened. i love you raul!!!!!

I read that pigeons/doves have a better life with humans than without.

I found a fledgling in my pool, dried him off and bought him formula and fed him. Then I saw two doves in my yard and put him out, assuming they're his parents.

Would it be unthinkable to just go and get him and make him a pet? I've already named him Paul.

I won't do it if it's a shitty thing to do. I'm more concerned with quality of life metrics rather than the law as it's illegal in my area.

It is a better communication mode for him and me . Since I am deaf . Still learning how to train him to communicate. It is rewarding. He is ready to learn new things . So will show u in videos in the near future.

I also noticed he flew into my blue flowery bag . And loafed on it. I thought that is cute!

It wandered into my warehouse. I found it just inside our dock next to a shipping bin. I put it back outside as one comment mentioned it may be a fledgling and the parents are still feeding it. I set it in a corner near our building under some crepe myrtles and mountain laurels, where I’m guessing it may have fallen from.

Found about 2.5 hours ago. I’m keeping an eye on it. Any advice would be appreciated!

So for some context - I had the dove on the left for over 2 years now. Unfortunately, earlier this year she lost her partner aka my other dove.

The two were very attached and I could see she seemed to be almost depressed after his loss. Depressed might not be the right word here but she definitely seemed lonely.

So i got another dove for her. Introduced them slowly and they seemed to get along just great!

That was a few months ago.

Since then they spent all their time together and everything seems to be alright with one thing that slightly worries me.

The newer dove could potentially be male and he seems to be REALLY in love with her. Wants to build a nest, grooms her constantly but she doesn't let him get near her whenever he feels like it is perhaps time to make love together.

He isn't aggressive in any way and seems to respect her but each night she shoos him away from the perch and I'm afraid he might be feeling lonely now? He seems to be in love with her while she doesn't seem to be interested. It might be me humanising these birds too much but Id rather ask and make sure

Btw they're both adult birds now so idk if that makes difference?

A pair of mourning doves have been using this pot as a nest since May. Eggs 11 and 12 will likely hatch this weekend, and we’ve been removing the debris, cleaning the walls of the pot, and putting down new substrate after each brood has fledged. About a week ago, the pair switched off and the female had a “ruffled” feather on her head. It hasn’t changed in the last week though, so I’m not sure if this is just an injury or potentially a contagious disease.

I saw house wrens with pink eye in the area last year, but this doesn’t look like that to me and I haven’t seen any since then.

There is a cat in the area I’ve seen chasing lizards and kill a squirrel, so it’s possible she just had a close call or smacked into something trying to escape danger.

She is feral and sitting on eggs, so this was about the best picture I could sneak without upsetting her too much, but even this I feel was pushing it, so I’m hesitant to try for more.

Hi! I’ve had my ring neck dove for about a year now and have been looking to upgrade his cage setup. I’ve seen a lot of posts about using the bottom of their cage for enrichment with paper, grass, foraging, etc. but I’m not sure how to incorporate that without it all getting contaminated by his droppings? Is there anyway to provide that form of enrichment while still allowing him to use the bathroom in his cage? Any advice helps, thank you!
