It says you might be a creep. You might not!

u/AdFun5641 Jul 30 '26

This is why people hate feminism.

The "I see the difference" has nothing to do with being a creep.

It is JUDGEMENT based on wearing one or the other, not that you can tell one skirt is shorter.

"I know how to use a ruler to measure stuff" == "extreme hatred of women"

But you throw in the weasel word of "might" so you can justify this.

This isn't feminism. It's moronic people behaving moronically in the name of feminism, thus severely hindering the movement, as we can clearly see here.

This isn't feminism. It's moronic people behaving moronically in the name of feminism

It's an ad. By a coupon app. This is literally just capitalism.

Capital adores performative feminism but hates actual egalitarianism

4

u/-PaperWoven- Jul 31 '26

...what a fucking joke

3

u/AdFun5641 Jul 31 '26

The ad is one thing, the defense of it is something else.

Dude defending the ad because the misandry is covered by a weasle word, that's the femninism I know and hate.

5

u/AdFun5641 Jul 30 '26

I can agree with this.

I can't tell the difference between "real feminism" and "people behaving moronically in the name of feminism", it really does all look the same to me.

If there really is a distinction i don't see, that's a huge problem for Feminism.

7

u/YooGeOh Jul 30 '26

So you're saying you cant spot the difference...?

2

u/Absolute_Immortal_00 Jul 30 '26

He must be a misogynist.

8

u/Eillon94 Jul 30 '26

This is a problem all of our great movements are facing right now. If you dont condem your own crazies then they become the voice of your movement.

In feminisms case, it doesnt help that many of its famous creators were awful people.

3

u/SledGawd Jul 31 '26

Who do you consider famous creators of feminism

4

u/Eillon94 Jul 31 '26

Simone de beauvoir is the first one that comes to mind that has some well-known skeletons in her closet

She said that women shouldnt have the choice to stay home with kids, because too many of them will choose it. She also groomed a couple of teen girls, if i recall correctly.

Funnily enough, the Rockefellers and the CIA put resources into the feminist movement as well.

2

u/DoomscrollingTYP Jul 31 '26

The largest single contributor to protestors legal costs during civil rights era was the Ford Foundation. What's the point of mentioning these things?

-1

u/SledGawd Jul 31 '26

feminism didn’t start with western academics in the 20th century

3

u/vegan420lyfe Jul 31 '26

it started with the temperance movement which led to the abysmal failure of the policy called prohibition

1

u/SledGawd Jul 31 '26

You think that’s when feminist philosophy and activism started? Who told you that?

1

u/DoomscrollingTYP Jul 31 '26

Everyone is CONSTANTLY shouting virtue signals at each other. That's bad, you're bad, I know what's good, I'm good!

The problem is you don't need to actually be correct because you thought long and hard (tictok world, hello?). All you have to do is "condemn the crazies" so your supposed correctness can be seen.

You're literally doing it right now. You are the problem.

u/Impossible_Tea_7032 Jul 31 '26

Sound the god damn alarm Feminism with the big F this one reddit person done got their brow all furrowed

-1

u/Lucaan Jul 30 '26

That sounds much more like a you problem than anything, gonna be honest.

-1

u/SledGawd Jul 30 '26

Idk man you might just be dumb

-1

u/m50d Jul 30 '26

Other movements distance themselves from people who do that. Reasonable, decent feminists (if there are any) need to get better at calling out badly behaved feminists.

16

u/DamnZodiak Jul 30 '26

This is why people hate feminism.

Because of an ad by a coupon app?

11

u/Kthulhu42 Jul 31 '26

If that's all it takes for someone to become anti-feminist, they weren't particularly feminist to begin with.

2

u/DamnZodiak Jul 31 '26

Like when some far-right grifters pretend they used to be left wing but then leftists got "too annoying" so now they're openly white supremacist.

28

u/azure-heavens Jul 30 '26

This is a billboard designed by a company to get your attention. It says directly on the billboard it's a fashion app.

Where are you getting feminism from this?

7

u/civicSi92 Jul 30 '26

Im guessing the bit where it talks about this women's say stop caring about skirt lengths that is written on the billboard.

1

u/Short-Recording587 Jul 31 '26

Yea, I frankly don’t care if women want to walk around nude, it doesn’t impact me. But challenge me to spot the difference and I’m going to do my best to spot the difference.

1

u/civicSi92 Aug 01 '26

Yeah its definitely a weird, want to be gotcha moment. Its like those spot the difference pictures. If you get told to spot the difference then it kind of stands to reason you'll try and spot the difference.

1

u/Square-Singer Aug 01 '26

Considering this is an ad targeted at women to get them to shop for women's clothes, I fail to see how this actually has anything to do with feminism, except that it mentions women's day. And it only mentions women's day because they have discounts at that day.

There's literally nothing about that ad that's targeting men or that's about any part of feminism.

It's just about "Buy more clothes here, and also buy something else than what you usually buy".

-1

u/Gizogin Jul 30 '26

I can't be bothered to confirm, because I'm not giving them the traffic, but I'm going to assume they mean "don't worry if the skirt is slightly shorter than you were looking for; look how much cheaper it is!"

5

u/civicSi92 Jul 31 '26

Really?? Lol sure.

2

u/AdFun5641 Jul 31 '26

Not the ad it's self. The ad is some corpo stooge trying to be edgy and failing.

The defense of the ad, saying the misandry is just fine because it's covered by a weasle word, that's the femninism I know and hate.

2

u/limonsoda1981 Jul 30 '26

I mean, the ad is trying to associate itself with womens rigths in the subtext and with the womens day called in the very text. Is not far fetched.

6

u/azure-heavens Jul 30 '26

You can't count on a business to be engaging in things like that in good faith. They're just trying to make sales. Capitalists are not our friends.

1

u/Square-Singer Aug 01 '26

There's no need to interpret. The ad spells it out.

"Get biggest discounts on women's fashion."

This ad only uses the word "Woman's day" because of the discounts that are available on that day. You could replace "Woman's day" with "Halloween", "Black Week" or any other "shopping holiday" and it would work exactly the same.

This is not about feminism in any way.

0

u/limonsoda1981 Jul 30 '26

Of course, i agree, but still, the connection with the label is very much there, even if it is as fake as a multicolored flag in a Facebook avatar.

18

u/tw1nkle Jul 30 '26

I think it's why you hate feminism. It's not why I hate feminism. Because I don't!

I am perfectly able to cope with the concept that women deserve the same rights and treatment as men, and not get butthurt about men being called out when they are abusive or misogynistic or just plain fucking weird. But looking at the threads off this post I feel like maybe that's just me.

-2

u/EyeWriteWrong Jul 30 '26

Ecce Mono! Nice!

1

u/blkbullnyc 28d ago

Its not feminism it's capitalism with a feminist skirt on.

1

u/AdFun5641 27d ago

Yes

But what is the "with a feminist skirt on"?

It's not treat men and women with equal respect

It's not gender equality in higher education

It's not stop mommy tracking young women

It's not equal access to the halls of power

That "with a feminist skirt on" is blatant misandry

-3

u/GnomeFae Jul 30 '26

Literally nobody in the picture mentions anything about feminism lol. Those blue haired feminists are living rent free in that noggin of yours huh?

9

u/YooGeOh Jul 30 '26

Im not part of this argument, but if something connecting itself to "womens day" with a message about womens rights, safety, and sexualisiation, I would say that said message was inherently feminist.

I'd also.wager that the makers of said poster would say that their.message was feminist as well.

I dont think things need to literally have the words "this message is endorsed by feminism Inc." on it to be feminist

Feminism is an ideology and a wide ranging one at that. Some things are clearly feminists without having to declare it. Feminism doesnt need to declare itself

-2

u/GnomeFae Jul 30 '26

Right but you can understand the point of my comment yes?

It's not flashing bright lights saying "look here a feminist made this." But my comment serves as a way to show how wrong the previous commenter was.

Everything has its given context, and sometimes, like the comment I replied to, it's just bigotry.

1

u/HeartyBeast Jul 30 '26

What's the point of the ad? I have literally no idea. It might be a bizarro fom of feminist message? We're all guessing here

2

u/SledGawd Jul 31 '26

The point is to advertise a product or service. Full stop.

-4

u/GnomeFae Jul 30 '26

The point is in the add lol "stop focusing on skirt length this woman's day"

If you need it spelled out for you: it's guessing that your first guess when looking at the ad is skirt length as the difference.

Because typically younger girls are wearing skirts or just women in general. The idea behind the idea is normally of people weren't focused on checking out girls/women their reaction would be "hmm they look the same" but the emphasis on length implies that people are thinking about it more sexually than they should.

Hence the message. Is it well executed? Hell no as someone with an MBA and focus on marketing it's a horribly designed ad, but that's what happens when Gen X ( likely ) lead paint swiss cheese brain takes over the department.

But in fairness it is getting spread around social media. So maybe they achieved their goal lol.

3

u/HoightyToighty Jul 31 '26

when Gen X ( likely ) lead paint swiss cheese brain

Funny, I read a comment of yours pointing out "bigotry" in someone else's comment (there was none), and here you are with your bigoted, ageist commentary.

I'd guess you don't have the introspection to see that, though.

1

u/Gizogin Jul 30 '26

This ad isn't feminism. It's an ad for a fashion app. The point is to generate outrage from people like you, because that spreads their brand messaging even further for free. It's the exact strategy PETA uses.

3

u/AdFun5641 Jul 31 '26

Correct.

The ad was made by some corpo stooge with no real understanding of the issues to try and generate outrage.

The outrage isn't at the ad it's self by the idiot defending the ad because it used a weasle word to cover the misandry. That's the feminism I know and hate.

0

u/Aenonimos Jul 31 '26

You will be less mad when you consider how stupid, uninformed, and low skill the average person is at anything. Then realize the people who the ad resonates are those people.

1

u/xteve Jul 30 '26

Americans have become obsessed with "creep" as an accusation. I noticed this when I returned to the States about 15 years ago, after a while away. There was a local story about a "creeper" on a local trail that turned out to be a dude from another country just trying to meet women. I kept noticing the term, and checked Google Trends. Indeed, the word had become much more common in recent years.
