Scene from Into the Spider-Verse where Miles gets a 0 on a true/false test and catches on the only statistically possible way he could have done that was if he knew all the right answers and deliberately chose the wrong ones, meaning he's intentionally trying to fail out of the class and quit.

This is, however, a multiple choice test with four possible answers per question, so it's far more possible to get 0 correct answers due to actually being that stupid.

Statistically to get EVERY question wrong even with guessing each one is about a 0.00318% chance.

Sure, if guessing. But for most multiple choice tests I've done  I'm able to narrow it down to 2 answers and know the others are incorrect. So it's far easier to get a zero because for most questions if you know even a little bit, as you can likely deduce which answer it most likely isn't.

If you truly don't know and are making an educated guess, statistically speaking you're still almost never going to get a perfect 0, it's very much an outlier

There's often at least one answer that is definitely wrong, even with minimal education on the subject. Getting a zero would be relatively easy, and no way you could make the assertion that they had to know all the right answers to pull off a zero.

I feel like it should be rather easy to narrow a true or false question down to just 2 options

Getting a 0% is miles (pun intended) easier than getting a 100%, you only need to find 1 out of the 3 false answers for each question

Wym "even" with guessing? That would imply that there is a lower chance if you don't guess, which isnt the case

But if you're going to get every question wrong, this picture is the way to do it! Selecting the same answer for every question, or being very deliberate about answer distribution (ex. predominantly C for A-D answer choices), will get you a much better chance of answering at least some of them correctly. The best way to get all of them wrong is to select a random answer for each question.

No. It’s (3/4)36 which is .00318%.

Edit: Assuming there are 36 questions since the second column starts with 19.

At least we agree on the math then. You hadn’t added your assumption in the edit when I replied, and the picture says 0/100, wouldn’t it be more likely to assume it’s 100 questions. You don’t know how many rows of questions there is.

I had added my assumption when you replied to me specifically. You might be thinking about the original person you tried to correct. Me and him had made the same assumption. I realized where the difference might’ve lied within a few minutes of making my comment and added the edit then.

Like I said I think your assumption is also reasonable though. It’s really kind of a dumb thing to argue about at this point but why would the second column start at 19 if there were more than 18 in the first column, especially when more than 18 would clearly fit on the first column. Additionally if only 18 rows and 2 columns fit per side of the page then the maximum that would fit on the front and back is 72. So that would mean there are multiple pages to fit 100 answers and there clearly aren’t multiple pages. As for why out of 100, almost everything in my country is graded on a 0-100 scale regardless of the amount of questions.

Okay maybe I just didn’t read your edit then, I didn’t see it, so I thought it was a math error.

Hehe yes, who knows how many columns there are, so you can assume a lot. 0/36 is also really hard to achieve by pure chance (stupidness).

It depends on how many questions there are. With 30 questions, the odds of failing all of them by picking randomly are (0.75)^30=0.000179 or 0.0179%. I’m not sure how either of you got your numbers

It says a score of 0 out of 100. So yes, assumed 100 questions. If there were 36, it would more likely be 0/36 or 0%, not 0/100.

that is the number of points possible for the assignment, many teachers write it as a fraction because it's easier for them when tallying the final grade

It also depends on how many multiple choice options there are. Everyone assuming each question has exactly 4 choices is kind of blowing my mind.
