WWII Facts for Everyone

  • 75-80% of German casualties occurred on the Eastern Front
  • 25 million Soviets vs 300,000 American war deaths occurred
  • both the Battle of Kursk AND the Battle of Stalingrad were each independently larger than all western front battles combined
  • the Soviet Union faced off against 70% of Hitler’s army for years during Op Barbarossa

Edit: changed Americans to Everyone

Forgetting the Lend-Lease here. While the Soviets supplied the manpower, they would’ve failed without the US supplies.

they definitely would not have failed, but it would have taken a lot longer

Iirc Khrustjev and Zhukov both said so in memoirs. The USSR had very limited industrial capacity before 1943, and without US support the nazis most likely would’ve taken Stalingrad and Moscow. The Soviets might’ve survived that, but I doubt it.

we were late because it wasnt our fight

but we supplied the equipment

we stormed normany alone

-american history taught in school clearly portays them as the hero in the story, when in fact they are just late, and waiting for the right side to prevail for the max amount of profit post war
