Bad writing and bad actors and bad product.

For all the racism and sexism criers I want to know why nobody hated Alien or Blade or any other good movie with non white Male leads. You guys feed the racism even more than the kkk (which is ridiculous).

Sometimes it's just bad products

It goes deeper, these movies are the poster children for enshittification. Marvel realized superhero fatigue set in and pop culture dropped MCU after end game. The universe was wrapped up, with a bow on it, and the story was complete

BUT, disney was up marvel’s ass to make more money for shareholders because if line dont go up then suits get mad. So marvel made these hastily made shit shows. Then to cover for their shittiness they ham fisted progressive social issues to deflect any criticism when the public didnt like it. MCU fan boys could then cry racism and disney would back off marvel when the shows failed

If you listen to bob iger’s first earnings call back as CEO of Disny he had to explicitly say that they arent pushing social issues and will rest MCU because investors were so mad

Basically it was the worst of capitalism and disingenuous corporate social pandering. Literally everyone hated it except MCU stans

Glass cliff is ultimately the actual answer.

Especially with Marvel, it's really easy to notice the drop in quality because the original content is already filled with misogynist tropes, while the general quality of those movie adaptations is highly dependent on their makers' investment in or expectations from them.

In other words, it is no coincidence that whenever those types of principal performers (women or minorities) are hired, you end up complaining about shit writing or production.

It's just that the order during creation is reversed. However they pretend, those people recognize a bad script when they see one, and so, they allocate money accordingly.

It isn't as if movie studios intentionally create or select bad content, but they know how rare a good result is, especially when you force it.

In fact, that same applies even to animation.

u/twisty125 1d ago

It's a shame these people don't understand that if you cannibalise your audience, you make less money.

u/shadovvvvalker 1d ago

To add to this.

IW/EG were poorly written attempts to make something cohesive out of the toy of they had created.

Those movies left a lot of casualties on the floor rotting.

But that was fine, because the goal was to get it done at any cost.

They set forth a nearly impossible task and barely got through it, but the cost was the majority of their future.

I keep seeing bad writing 😂

u/dplans455 1d ago

These arguments are torn to shreds when you consider that even other movies/shows within the MCU that were led by women and minorities were a huge success: Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, WandaVision. What's the difference? Oh, these movies and shows had good writing and good acting.

u/darthjawafett 1d ago

Captain Marvel definitely got a lot of hate that was absolutely centered on Carol Danvers. 45% on rotten tomatoes user score.

Most recently Wonder Man got cancelled and that show was agreed to be pretty good amongst marvel shows.

2

u/dplans455 1d ago

Wonder Man failed because the concept of that show is just plain old stupid.

1

u/darthjawafett 1d ago

The concept of the show is like the basis of so many super hero stories. Balancing a normal life with hiding super powers.

2

u/Senior-Friend-6414 1d ago

The irony of captain marvel is that her comic book character was only made so that marvel can have their own version of Wonder Woman, and her comics failed and her movie legacy pretty much followed her comic book legacy

u/Positive_Pear5193 1d ago

What other good movies?

2

u/OnyxMonolith 1d ago

i think it would be a bit different if blade was white and then they switched him to black

1

u/gerMean 1d ago

I'm only pissed that blade doesn't have his lasersword like in spiderman. Nick fury was changed, I'm sure other characters who are cool in good movies got changed too, don't know right now on the top of my head.

2

u/dgreenmachine 1d ago

Its mostly just low charisma actors. All three on the top row were high charisma lovable characters.

2

u/falloutnewbkinibttms 1d ago

Tatiana Maslany is not a bad actor. She put in a generational performance in Orphan Black.

2

u/Traditional_Bag_7842 1d ago

This is the dumbest take I have ever read on Reddit and backed up by whatever idiot gave you an award for this disastrous take, you think people didn’t have an issue with Blade!? A black male lead superhero movie in the 1998!? Bffr

2

u/JeDi_Five 1d ago

For a more modern example you could include Luke Cage and Kill Bill.

2

u/Porticulus 1d ago

I yearn for a new Blade project. One day, one day...

2

u/OnTheFenceGuy 22h ago

Maslani is an excellent actor. But you are correct on the other stuff.

1

u/gerMean 22h ago

To be fair, after I saw how good the two leads of Twilight were in other movies I should have noted that it's probably not the actor at all. So I agree I was at least in general wrong with the actor part.

5

u/IcyEcho17 1d ago

Female and African leads aren’t the problem. Literally no one has a problem with that. It’s the forced DEI that is trash and you all agree, whether you want to admit it or not because you aren’t watching this slop either.

3

u/Starossi 1d ago

Ya everyone here calling people who are pointing it out racist, and then you’ve got people like this top commenter asking if we cried with alien or blade.

No, we didn’t, because as you said they were written well and it wasnt just DEI slop.

That’s the point. Calling out DEI slop isn’t racistly saying all black or female leads are bad.

this is true DEI slop. Literally just copy the original characters, gender or race swap them, and hope it works out.

And yes I know stuff like she hulk is comic book original. It doesn’t change they chose that to be one of their newest shows after end game. They could’ve picked tons of different content that is written better. But they picked the poorly written she hulk. You give me a good guess as to why they picked that out of everything, other than “I hope the new progressive young kids like it just cause it’s a woman”

4

u/gerMean 1d ago

True, it's sad how much damage DEI did, instead of bringing people together it divides.

I guess it brings people together in hating it. Typical for bad apples to use nice ideas and twist them to exploit the normal good people.

4

u/CogBliZ 1d ago

Of course, but together with diversity and black painting fatigue it was always doomed to flop.

7

u/gerMean 1d ago

Nobody cared that marvel does make nick fury black, because it's done with a awesome actor that does a great job.

Race and Sex barely have influence on normal people reception.

Arcane has a lesbian couple as MC and everyone loved it. Bad products are bad not because of this, I agree that pushing needless diversity can be annoying, but mostly because it's pushed AND the product succs. So in the end quality is the problem, and culture war (or whatever the term is) just distracts from the lazy writing and production

6

u/CogBliZ 1d ago

Yep, I agree, I'm just mentioning that on top of the product being terrible, it doesn't help that many of the terrible products unfortunately follow a trend where it seems a political message is more important than the quality of the product.

4

u/gerMean 1d ago

True, I hate that companies push this partly to be immune to criticism and to cash out in in diversity tax credits. Over pushing it to milk lost money out of states, having a negative effect on society by dividing people instead of bringing them together.

5

u/PickledDildosSourSex 1d ago

This is exactly it. Most people are totally fine with a "minority" if the acting and writing is good

1

u/Anustart2023-01 1d ago

Alien and Blade were different times. We didn't have the likes of Ben Shapiro, the Critical drinker etc. crying non stop about the woke agenda.

It doesn't help that Disney has a habit of making garbage and putting people of colour and women as the lead actors.

1

u/courtofknights 1d ago

It's never racism and sexism, it's always bad writing. Nobody hated Black Widow, Pepper, The Wasp, Gamora, Mantis, or Yelena. But they hated Captain Marvel and She-Hulk. Why? Not sexism, just bad writing.

Nobody hated T'Challa, The Falcon, Shuri, Okoye, Rhodey, Nick Fury or Heimdall. But they hated Ironheart. Why? Not racism, just bad writing.

1

u/Admirable-Ad7152 1d ago

So like, I agree the reason it's gone down is bad writing/acting/product

But the reason Blade and Alien didn't get hate was the era. If either of them were released now, there would 100% be a squadron of "ew woke" because they do not care about quality, even if it would (hopefully) be smaller than the hate for stuff that's actually bad.

1

u/DwarfBoxFort 1d ago

I'd also argue that people just don't like recasts in general.

1

u/ThirstyOutward 1d ago

Alien? The movie from the 1970s? And blade from the 90s?

That's your examples lmfao

Holy shit you could not have proven their point any harder.

1

u/Bhawk670208 1d ago

The point isn’t that they’re hated because they’re black or women. The movies sucked and so racists and sexists use them as examples to spread their hate.

Also, the oop is trying make a “dark humor” joke, which is the explanation op was after.

1

u/Ordinary_Health 1d ago

im sorry WHAT? the people who think, justifiably, that one of the reasons people dont like new marvel shows is because of racism are worse than the KKK for racism? also those movies you mentioned are like 20-30 yrs old. there is not a new movie or show with a woman lead or important character that isnt dragged for it all over the internet. and people rightfully say that if Alien came out today it would be called woke garbage. just the fact you felt you needed to add that people are worse than the KKK for defending a show really exposes your true feelinga

1

u/RoboJobot 1d ago

Both came out before incels got access to social media, in fact they were released before social media existed.

1

u/Luckyguy456gaming 1d ago

The only answer

1

u/atxthrowawayharhar 1d ago

That's a terrible comparison. It's more so what they got replaced with.

If blade got replaced with a white person the same thing would happen.

1

u/Choders 1d ago

The writing in all of these movies is bad, why do people think it's the writing? These aren't exactly Shakespeare. Wow a children's story made for adults didn't have good writing???

1

u/PartTime_Crusader 22h ago

It's dumb because there's plenty of post-endgame introduced characters that are female or non-white who had positive receptions. Yelena, Shang-Chi, Agatha, Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, Namor, Isaiah Bradley. They cherry picked the examples that were saddled with bad writing

-1

u/whatisireading2 1d ago

Could've just left it at bad writing before taking a hard left into a weird ass conspiracy territory.

1

u/SorkSupreme 1d ago

People pretending to be stupid like this here are some exhausting honestly

-1

u/Double_Fun_1721 1d ago

Claiming that salty comic book media fans feed racism more than the most lethal and brutal racist terror organization in the history of the United States is quite a statement. Fuck you, and fuck your absolutely fucked opinion

-4

u/etherealimages 1d ago

Youre an idiot chud

0

u/DangerPotato82 1d ago

This has always been my go to argument.

Why did nobody hate Wesley Snipes as blade? Because the source material matches and he’s a fucking badass in the role.

Alien? Because it’s original and that’s the source material and she’s a badass.

Katniss? Shockingly the same even though I hated the movies.

My favorite actor in the whole world period the end is Denzel Washington. I will watch any movie no matter how bad because I just enjoy watching him do his thing. Have you ever SEEN Gabrielle Union in Bad Boys 2?

We don’t hate seeing people of color on screen. I’m sure you can find some KKK asshole but that’s a minority no matter how loud on social media.

Some of us just hate gender/race swapping beloved characters for social credit or whatever you want to call it, and shockingly all of us hate shitty, hollow cash grab scripts and bad acting. Who knew?

-2

u/APerson662 1d ago

I would be hesitant to blame the actors. A lot of the time they're just not given good material to work with. Sam was pretty cool in the earlier Captain America movies. I don't think anyone is actually saying that these projects did poorly because of racism and sexism. But the online discourse around those shows definitely was poisoned by bigoted talking points.
