It’s an incredibly expensive private hospital, which is significant in the UK where most people give birth using NHS services.

St. Mary’s hospital is part of the NHS but they have a private wing called the Lido wing which is where Kate Middleton and also Diana gave birth. But the entire hospital itself isn’t highly expensive or exclusive.

Ah, I thought it was the Portland, but that was the Sussex kids.

No, Meghan is the one who did that. William and Kate used St. Mary’s and Edward and Sophie actually were in another NHS hospital, not even a private wing.

To the best of my knowledge, no other Royal has used Portland besides the Sussexes.

Yup. We happened to pass it along the way on a coach tour out to Bath and Stonehenge, and the tour guide pointed it out.

What is the point of a private hospital there? Don’t want to be in the same building as commoners or something?

Private room, better food, fancy soap in the bathrooms.

Higher quality services. Health care usually is around same level, unless you are seeking some non health related procedure that is bette in the prívate sector.

But in the public hospital you are getting a tasteless pudding and a room with 3 old guys that fart non stop for your staying.

In the prívate hospital you have a solo room and filet mignon. There are levels at being unhealthy.

It is a NHS hospital too. But they have a private wing which is the Lido wing.

Security and space. If she tried to give birth to a future king on a random ward either her privacy would be violated or she would have to clear more space than a typical patient to maintain it.

As it is she had a breach of privacy tha resulted in a Nurse committing suicide.

Basically this you’re also paying for a room with a nice bed and privacy.
