Heads-up: A leading > creates a block quote in Markdown, so it ate yours! You can use `backticks` to prevent this sort of thing; e.g. "Use `>!this notation<!` for spoiler tags" renders as "Use >!this notation<! for spoiler tags".

You can just escape them with backslashes, like this:

\>!spoiler!< (edit: escaping escapes doesn't work, ugh)

to show

>!spoiler!<
