Deflation can also result in a very negative feedback loop, the Great Depression was a deflation spiral for example.

Is deflation a cause or symptom, though? To me, it’s just a number, but I understand that it is more than that to various economic groups.

As far as I understand it, deflation indicates that prices are going down, which is a good thing to me individually.

People aren't currently keeping their jobs or customers due to inflation though, no one can afford to run their businesses when raw materials, fuel, and taxes are so high.

That is why there is a whole other problem area on the opposite side when inflation is too high. Typically, in modern economics a healthy inflation is around 2%.
