Post image
20 Upvotes

You found us! Trent Film Society is pleased to announce our first slate of the 2026/27 school year: Lost & Found… Are these film selections completely random or was it ordained by fate?

If you’re just discovering us, our screenings (which are FREE and OPEN to ALL) begin at 7pm every Tuesday in Sadleir House‘s newly upgraded Film Library and Lecture Hall. We start with a curated pre-show reel, and end with a post-show discussion — neither of which are mandatory but attendance is highly recommended. We want everyone to feel included in the experience all the way through with FREE snacks and FREE freshly popped popcorn (but you are more than welcome to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages)!

We hope to see you soon, don’t get lost!

Recommendations Vehicle Appraisals? Who Would You Recommend?

I need to have a vehicle appraised due to its age, this prior to it being re-registered by MTO and Service Ontario; it is a 1980s vehicle and based on it being 45 years old requires an appraisal.

Who would you recommend for an appraisal of a motor vehicle?

The dealership I went to would only appraise the trade-in value.

Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record - Used Vehicle Information Package - Form 1159E

The appraised value of a vehicle is NOT intended to be trade-in value but represents the value that one might expect to receive in a sales transaction between a willing buyer and a willing seller. Appraisals completed by persons not recognized as appraisers by the Ministry of Finance, will not be accepted by the Ministry of Finance or the Ministry of Transportation. Appraisals must be done within 60 days of the date of purchase.

Other PTBO Food Inspections - Aug 24–30, 2026

Peterborough Public Health inspected 18 food premises in Peterborough this week. Nine locations received infractions — five had at least one critical infraction and four had non-critical infractions only. Nine inspections came back completely clean.

Here's what was found...

🔴 Maple Moose Pub — 331 George St N, Peterborough Central South

Required inspection August 24, Follow-up August 25 · 4 critical/4 non-critical, then 0 critical/1 non-critical

The worst single-visit result this week, but also the fastest turnaround. This is the location's 4th critical infraction on record since September 2024. A required inspection on August 24 found the dishwasher not sanitizing at the required chlorine concentration/temperature, multi-service articles not sanitized after each use, food not protected from contamination, and an inadequate number of hand-washing stations — plus four non-critical issues (pest control, dirty cloths/towels, no sanitizer test reagent, no towels/air dryer at the sanitary facility). A follow-up the very next day (August 25) found all four critical issues resolved, with only one non-critical infraction remaining: pest control.

🔴 KFC - 786 Chemong — 786 Chemong Rd., Peterborough North

Required inspection, August 27 · 2 critical, 3 non-critical

This is the location's 2nd critical infraction on record since September 2024. Critical: food not protected from contamination, and food in storage not protected from contamination (dirty racks/shelves). Non-critical: equipment not clean/sanitized, sanitary facility not kept clean, and walls/ceilings/floors not kept clean and in good repair. No follow-up has been recorded yet.

🔴 Aleppo Castle — 343 George St N, Peterborough Central South

Required inspection, August 25 · 2 critical

This is the location's 2nd critical infraction on record since September 2024. Critical: multi-service articles not cleaned and sanitized after each use, and food not protected from contamination. Product on-site was seized and destroyed; food handler education was provided. No follow-up has been recorded yet.

🔴 Lighthouse Lounge and Grill — Crary Park Marina, Peterborough Central South

Required inspection, August 27 · 1 critical, 1 non-critical

This is the location's 2nd critical infraction on record since September 2024. Critical: food not protected from contamination. Non-critical: ventilation not properly maintained. Food handler education was provided on-site; no follow-up has been recorded yet.

🔴 Fat Bastard Burrito - Lansdowne Place — 645-150A W Lansdowne Street, Peterborough South

Required inspection, August 27 · 1 critical

This is the location's 4th critical infraction on record since September 2024. Critical: potentially hazardous food not held at or above 60°C. Food handler education was provided on-site; no follow-up has been recorded yet.

🟡 The Original Spaghetti House Pizzeria (Pizzaboro) — C-597 Monaghan Rd, Peterborough South

Follow-up inspection, August 24 · 0 critical, 2 non-critical

Good-news update: this is the follow-up to the critical infraction we reported here last week (August 17–24 report). The critical issue is now resolved. Two non-critical infractions remain — garbage/waste not collected as needed, and pest control records not maintained.

🟡 Wing House — 320 Water Street, Peterborough Central South

Required inspection, August 27 · 0 critical, 1 non-critical

Floors not kept clean and in good repair. Food handler education was provided on-site.

🟡 Mister Convenience - 608 Orpington Rd — 608 Orpington Rd., Peterborough South

Required inspection, August 27 · 0 critical, 1 non-critical

Inadequate illumination in the premise.

🟡 Personal Touch Kitchen — 191 Charlotte St, Peterborough Central South

Required inspection, August 25 · 0 critical, 1 non-critical

Floors not kept clean and in good repair. Food handler education was provided on-site.

🟢 Loon Ho — 871 Chemong Rd, Peterborough North

Follow-up inspection, August 25 · Clean, no infractions.

Good-news update: this is the follow-up to the 3 critical / 5 non-critical infractions we reported here last week, which also involved the Fire Department. Fully resolved — zero infractions of any kind this visit.

🟢 Friendly Indian Cuisine — 1017 Monaghan Rd, Peterborough West

Follow-up inspection, August 24 · Clean, no infractions.

Good-news update: this is the follow-up to the critical infraction we reported here last week. Fully resolved.

🟢 Peterborough Marina — 92 George St, 52 Crary Park, Peterborough Central South

Required inspection, August 27 · Clean, no infractions.

🟢 Fresh Co. - 181 Brock Street — 181 Brock St, Peterborough Central North

Required inspection, August 27 · Clean, no infractions.

🟢 No Frills - Greg's 230 GSN — 230 George St. N., Peterborough Central South

Required inspection, August 27 · Clean, no infractions.

🟢 Fifties Good Time Cafe — 590 Monaghan Rd, Peterborough South

Required inspection, August 27 · Clean, no infractions.

🟢 Starbucks Coffee - 841 Rye St. — 841 Rye Street, Peterborough South

Required inspection, August 26 · Clean, no infractions.

🟢 Peter's Convenience — 1789 Stenson Dr, Peterborough South

Required inspection, August 26 · Clean, no infractions.

🟢 Tim Hortons - 1200 Lansdowne — 1200 Lansdowne St W, Peterborough West

Required inspection, August 24 · Clean, no infractions.

How to read this: "Critical" vs "non-critical" is Ontario's own regulatory risk tier, not a severity score we assign — critical findings relate directly to things that can make food unsafe (contamination, temperature control, hand hygiene); non-critical covers maintenance and paperwork requirements (equipment condition, signage, sanitizer test reagents) that health units still require but don't by themselves mean the food is unsafe. 🔴 = at least one critical infraction, 🟡 = non-critical only, 🟢 = zero infractions of any kind. This report lists every Peterborough inspection for the week, including clean ones — nothing is filtered out. Results reflect conditions at the time of the visit only — check the disclosure portal for a location's current placard/status.

Source: Peterborough Public Health Environmental Health Portal. No premises were ordered closed this period; Aleppo Castle had product seized and destroyed.

Opinion Give the person who proposed/decided to move Ribfest to Healthy Planet a BEER!

Hey everyone! 🙌
Moving Ribfest from Del Crary Park to Healthy Planet Arena was a brilliant call. Now we get to enjoy the ribs at proper tables, soak up the live music, and skip the parking stress entirely.
Win-win. 🍖🎶 Whoever made this happen, deserves a beer and a big rib ;)

Question Peterborough petes billet trial

Thoughts on the Peterborough Petes billet trial?

For anyone who has been following the trial involving the former Peterborough Petes billet, I’m curious what others think now that the trial is nearing the end.

Based on the evidence and testimony that has come out, what do you think the most likely verdict is?

And if she is found guilty on both remaining charges — sexual exploitation and distributing sexual material for the purpose of facilitating sexual exploitation — what do you realistically think the sentence could look like? Actual jail time? A conditional/community sentence? Probation? Something else?

I know nobody can predict what the judge will decide, but I’d especially be interested in hearing from anyone familiar with Canadian criminal law or sentencing in similar cases.

Also curious whether the fact that she was a teacher and was acting as a billet for a teenage hockey player would have much impact on sentencing if she is convicted.

Not looking to debate anyone personally — genuinely interested in what people who have followed the evidence think the outcome will be.

Drove by here and saw a campaign sign on the fence outside the last remnant of the old Baskin Robbins/Silverwoods plant. It made me wonder: where do the candidates (mayoral and ward) stand on urban blight and vacant properties that remain undeveloped for years. It would be nice to know if any of them have considered an action plan of some kind, if at all.

Politics Any Prospective mayors pushing for commercial flights at YPQ, could this bring real jobs to PTBO?

are any candidates pushing for growth at Peterborough Regional Airport (YPQ), including the idea of scheduled commercial flights.

passenger service could create airport jobs plus spinoffs in tourism, hospitality, and logistics, and make the city more attractive for business.

What do you think, realistic anytime soon? Worth the money? Which candidates are strongest on it?Curious about local takes, especially from anyone who works at/near the airport.

Question Moving social services out of the downtown core?

I realize we are a regional hub for all sorts of services, but it seems to me these services are all downtown. I understand the logistics thinking of accessibility for those who need these services - walkable, accessible, creating networks of support for providers and users of the services. I also know that moving these services out of the downtown core would be a NIMBY nightmare.

But, are any Municipal candidates talking about how this concentration of services creates this impossible situation of "revitalizing" our downtown core?

Recommendations Muay Thai Classes?

Morning all, happy Saturday.

I see the following businesses in/near Peterborough. They're all mostly about the same in terms of Google review, just curious if anyone has any personal experience - good or bad - with any of them. For some context, bit out of shape compared to the last time I trained, so definitely going to be steep curve conditioning-wise, also looking to bring my son (late teens) who is a bit shy, and a bit nervous that everyone there is going to be super advanced and he'll feel really out of place.

Eris Martial Arts/10th Planet

World Championship Martial Arts

Kawartha Combat

Nomad Striking Academy

Thanks everybody!

Edit: Thanks for the input, everyone! Starting a trial with the boy on Wednesday!
