Discussion Slow Obake?

Since when does an Obake slow down like this? 😅
I’m still fairly new to Phasmophobia and currently learning the different hunt tells, so maybe I’m missing something obvious here.
I had it narrowed down to Obake, Raiju and Dayan. I ruled out Raiju because the ghost literally walked over active electronics without speeding up.
During this hunt it slowed down so noticeably near me that I thought it had to be a Dayan. I had ruled Dayan out earlier because the ghost had a male name, but after seeing this hunt I actually thought maybe the name was bugged and picked Dayan anyway. 😂
Turns out it was an Obake.
Watching the clip again, I also noticed the Obake shapeshift right before I turn away... I completely missed it during the hunt itself.
But I’m still confused about the speed. I thought Obake had normal ghost speed/LOS acceleration and no special slowing mechanic?
What exactly caused the slowdown here? LOS/pathing, or am I misunderstanding something about Obake hunts?

The Tier 2 incense slows the ghost down when the ghost is affected by it. Is that the slow you're talking about?

I think you just were confused because the smudge t2 has a slowdown effect on the ghost whilst it’s effected.
Easy mistake as the different tiers of gear and their differences are not clearly explained in the game unless that has been recently changed.
T1 smudge - no slowdown, lowest amount of burn time.
T2 smudge - slowdown, a little bit more burn time for the incense.
T3 smudge - huge slowdown/freeze, the most amount of time the smudge will burn.
Edit: spelling.
Edit: edited a slight mistake I made in the smudge duration. (Credit goes to Asheldust)

All tiers of incense smudge the ghost for the same duration (5 seconds). It's just that each tier of incense has 1 second more burn time than the previous, meaning you can light it and it'll burn longer. They don't affect the ghost for longer.
This info, as well as a lot of other equipment info, is generally available in the shop. Sometimes it's not presented in a super clear way though.

Thanks I’ll edit my post regarding the smudge duration.
Had no idea about the shop containing this information, the text is way to small for me to read.

Why do folks say that T2 is often better than T3?

You often don’t want the ghost to stay in the same spot but continue to walk in a direction so you can go the opposite way and hide.
Especially if you are in an unfortunate spot the ghost will kill you a lot more often if you freeze it instead of slowing it down.Apoc3 is a prime example for this, I used t1 smudges so that the ghost could continue on his merry way when I smudged it and hopefully far away from my intended direction with my snails pace.

I find with T2, I can borderline walk through the ghost if it catches me in a deadend. Are you saying that the T3 stops its movement completely but you can squeeze by it anymore? Or are you simply saying that those few extra seconds of the ghost walking in the wrong direction give you the distance you need to break LOS?

You can still move past/through the ghost with the T3. Best way I can think to explain it is with Edgefield. Imagin hiding in that little corner at the end of the hall near the kitchen. It's not an actual hiding spot but still works quite well unless the ghost paths into that little room. A T3 smudge will freeze the ghost in place, so once the smudge wears off the ghost is still on you and eats your face. A T2 smudge will slow the ghost but it keeps walking so by the time the smudge wears off it's left the room and you should be safe.
