The TL;DR:

The inspection found Heavy Metal’s setup did not align with the restaurant’s plan review, a document detailing operating procedures that all restaurants must submit to the health department in order to receive a food license.

Its most consequential finding: That the restaurant "does not have a handwash sink conveniently located in the customer dining area” because “access to the toilet room is located through the kitchen.” This makes the space unsuitable for indoor dining.

The recent determination — which came four years into Heavy Metal’s run as a hybrid butcher-restaurant — could cost Heavy Metal thousands of dollars in renovations and lost revenue, co-owners Melissa Pellegrino and Pat Alfiero said.

"When the [health inspector] asked if we could stop dinner, I told him we might not be here in six weeks to be reinspected,” Alfiero said. “I was just like, ‘How are we going to survive this?’”

Heavy Metal Sausage has been doing its trattoria dinners since 2022. The business has had an active food preparation and serving license since that year and had passed all previous health inspections — including one in April 2026 that made no mention of the bathroom issue or unauthorized indoor seating and kitchen equipment.

"We were inspected four months ago, and we have done absolutely nothing different in those four months,” Pellegrino said. “Not a single thing has changed.”

I first had terakawa a few months after they opened way back when and it was soo good, been there 2-3 more times with my kids. Have not been there for a few years due to long lines and living 1.5 hrs away. After having mediocre ramen during our summer trip they wantedb Terakawa, remembering how good it was. My kids were just there today and they could barely finish their bowl. They said it's not the same and it's so sad. What happened?

A group of us aims to meet annually over lunch in Chinatown every Oct, we're working around another event. Our group size varies but fits solidly between 8-10 ppl. We've liked Banana Leaf, Nan Zhou noodle house and Dim Sum Garden the last several years. Pre-pandemic we also liked Ocean City View.

No preference as to region/cuisine but vegetarian options a must. We're a mix of more adventerous to (a few) more cautious eaters. BYO wine/beer preferred as not everyone indulges.

Any suggestions in the $15-20 pp range? Reservations and credit cards always preferred, but not a deal breaker!

I used to go here as my late-nite after bar spot back in the day (2017-2018). That shit used to SLAP. Is it still as good as I remember? My boyfriend has never had a Philly cheese steak and I’m gonna take him to the typical tourist traps and let him choose one there, but then bless his tastebuds with Oregon steaks one other night.

I know there’s always a post about Mawn every time their reservations drop but I’m just so frustrated. My boyfriend lives in Philly and pretty much every time I have a planned visit we try to get a dinner reservation at Mawn on the first of the month before and fail every single time. We are both on the website 5 mins before, we click on the reserve button at 12 on the dot and everything is taken.

We both love Khao Soi and have heard great things about the dish from Mawn. Last time I was in Philly, we started waiting in the line for lunch for before realizing that the Khao Soi is only on the dinner menu and not the lunch, so to ever taste it my only option is to get a dinner reservation.

To those who have been, how good is the Khao soi, and is it worth getting rage baited every month by this reservation system for? And do you guys have any recs for Khao Soi spots in Philly? I have heard mixed reviews on Grandmas and that’s pretty much it.
