General Help Issues with Plex Server
Hi all,
I’m currently facing an issue with my plex server accessibility. It’s up and running, drives are mounted and showing. But, when im trying to access it at work from my app on my phone it’s telling me the server is offline. When i get home and connect to my WiFi, the server pops up, it’s so odd. Even people i share my library with have the same issue accessing it. Anyone know what’s happening with it, that can assist?

Are you able to look up and post the first 3 digits of your external ip? Your isp could be using CGNAT.

Two ways to grab this. Under remote access in plex it should show your public ip. Option two is Google what is my ip. It will show it also. If you do look under remote access does it show green that you are fully accessible? Just need the first 3 digits. Don't need to post the whole ip.

Ok. When i get home from work i will report back here and let you know. When i looked under remote access before it was green and fully accessible. That’s what it’s so weird that’s it’s not currently working for me.
Also the last time i looked at my IP it started with 192. I have Verizon fios. I’ll check again later.

You need to forward ports to have it accessible outside your home network, or use tailscale.

I’ve forwarded the Ports. I logged into my router and have done this several times.

Add exception in your fire wall and also do you have a VPN on? If so split Tunnel it to allow plex access to your ip Address not the VPN adress.... its confusing I know but might be the problem.

That’s just might be the issue because i just noticed i had the VPN on. How do i do this step?

It's highly dependent on which VPN you are using. But if you go into settings and generally, every one will have an option for "and the verbage may vary" SPLIT TUNNELING. in nord you select the app you want tunneled

Yup! for good mesure add an exception inbound and outbound for plex in your fire wall as well. Anyhow just select do not use this app for the VPN, in PIA then turn off wifi and load your plex on your phone to see the success.

Just to chime in - I'm having kind of the same issue in the central US. I have port forwarding enabled. I've had my system sharing outside my home network to family and friends for months with no issues. Nothing has changed in my set up.
Yesterday, I was checking some stuff on my server and I noticed Remote Access was red. Checked it and the connection to the Internet was not connected. Then, all of a sudden, it connected. All was good for about 2 minutes, then it disconnected again. I restarted the server and my network and it continued to toggle between connected and not connected.
The odd thing is I had 2 people streaming at the time this was happening and those streams never stopped. Just continued on Direct Stream the entire time. They never contacted me and said there was a problem.
I'm wondering if Plex is having an issue?

I saw the same thing yesterday. I looked into the linked “what it means” but the correct toggles were checked. I don’t have many that I share with and nobody was complaining so I didn’t look further. Hoping it resolves itself. I’m in TX

You can test this at home by putting your phone in cell only mode. That way you can monitor Plex and see what it shows when you try to access it “remotely”.

It red now and says not available outside your network. I guess it keeps going in and out. The public up starts with 192.168 and the private was 173.79

Have you tried port forwarding?
