I'm sure that this is for sure a noob question but how do people get countless mews, jirachis, and celebis? I really want to be able to get some of the older legendaries in my copy of sword, but I have no idea how to start.

Speaking for myself, it's a lot of what other people mentioned. Shield is my first game in a while, but I spent a lot of time grinding things that people wanted, and then just continued trading and dealing on subs like r/pokemontrades to build my collection. Along the way, I also made some friends who helped me me out. For example, I helped one person farm the shedninja raid for xp candies. In return, he gave me three masterballs. I then used those masterballs to get a few shiny eevees and finish out my shiny eevolution collection.
Or, in another case, I hatched one of the last shinies a friend needed for his shiny dex, and he gave me a shiny mewtwo he caught in Pokémon Go as a thank you. (Pokémon go is a large source of legit shinies, btw. The shiny rates are much higher, and you can often catch multiple copies of legendary and event mons.)

Iv gotten a lot of shinies using the raid exploit then traded them for legendaries or mythicals! Mostly shiny gmax Pokémon Or i would trade them for master balls then trade the MB for legendaries or mythicals.

Transfer them all forward. Some people(such as myself) get both versions of each game and get multiple event Pokémon. I have I forget how many shiny legendary dogs from the event from hg/ss that helped in bw. Then the GameStop jirachi event could be used on I believe 4 different games if I remember right. So then you get them on all 4 that’s how you get started. And if it’s a farmable one(think glitching to get to darkrai’s island) then you can catch it, trade it to another game and redo it over again.

You can do what I do, which is breed and trade, I basically started breeding shiny starters. Since the only way to get a shiny starter is to breed them it makes them valuable turning them into multiple MBs or older shiny legends

And about transferring them, how far back do have Pokémon you want to bring? I’ve brought some from the original RSE games and kept every legendary since then so I can walk you through the process

I mean I started from scratch with my new sword and shield, so I am happy with anything I get. I especially like celebi and jirachi but like I said, I'm not picky in the slightest

Most people just get them hacked. Shiny Mew was only available in an event over a decade ago. I honestly wouldn't believe that most people actually SRd thousands of times that long ago to get one.
Also, they're hacked and very easily available to buy on eBay for $4 USD. I bought one myself, I have no problem admitting it and I'm not gonna bullshit everybody like 99% of this sub has been. Throwing them in pics and screenshots just to show off.
Sure OP might be an exception, but I highly highly doubt it.

Shiny Mew was only available in an event over a decade ago.
afaik it is possible to glitch yourself to the event locations in emerald, including faraway island, thus it is possible to SR for mew there. that counts as legit for me if the hunt itself is done normally.

I transferred my shiny mewtwo from pokémon go, it’s the easiest game to get shinies in by far. now i’m just waiting to be able to link it directly to home so i can deposit my 300+ not gen 1 shinies

I'm fairly new to the pokemon community and this is in line with my impression so far. From what I've seen, shiny legendaries and mythicals (shiy or not) are mostly all hacked. Join any pokemon discord and read the trade channels... it's highly unlikely that all those pokemons being traded are legit. I bet some are, but most seem hacked.
I'm rethinking building a living national dex. Doesn't seem possible without trading into a hacked pokemon, even if unaware of it. Maybe I'll settle for a living dex without mythicals.

I appreciate the response! I don't mind the idea of hacking since it would be near impossible to get certain Pokemon without it. I enjoy the idea of the hunt but thinking about doing that for every single legendary and mythical is ridiculous. Some things should just be accepted

Also in sword, friendship also works like affection did in earlier games so you get a lot more 'benefit' in in-game battles

Along with what everyone else said, it also can heal your team. Say you're just grinding it out in the Wild Area and your team is either really injured or fainted, or your moves are out of PP. Making Curry properly (getting Copperjah or Charizard class) will revive fainted monsters, heal your team, and restore PP, and status conditions as well as all the other benefits you'd get from camping and curry. Even the lower class rankings will restore a bit of health, if you can't get timing or ingredients down properly.
It's really helpful if you don't want to fly away to a pokemon center, or you're somewhere else in the game where flying just isn't an option, but you don't want to be using individual potions and ethers.

so, I did that, which is how I got that video... BUT, when I realized I pressed the button too early and pressed record again (I didn't know how the animation was going to go!), it split it into a 30 second clip and a 9 second clip, rather than two 30 second clips with some overlap.
From there, I tried to upload to Twitter anyway, but when I I tried to create a Twitter account for that purpose, Twitter kept failing to email the verification code, so finally I just said "screw it" and took the video on my phone.
I really wish they made it easier to capture and share video and pics.

Personally what I do is post them on Facebook via the switch and set the privacy to only you then download them on your preferred device. Alternatively they also save on you sd card if you have one

Friendly PSA from the Currymaster, you can try this 'Currymax', as I like to call it, with the NPCs in on routes 6, 7 and 8. They aren't very good but route 8 seems the best, good luck!
