I cannot get over how wildly incompetent my local force Federation are and wonder if anyone else is feeling the same sense of utter frustration?

They don't help with the day-to-day issues that officers struggle to manage on their own, offer little to no real support and if I'm honest, even getting a reliable reply without multiple chasing emails from any of the 'reps' is like trying to get a blood from a stone. Surely this can't be how officer's wish to be represented.

Accepting that they're is no current alternative, there must be something we can do to lobby the Home Sec on this? Surely in light of all of the continued evidence of corruption, if officers join together we can demand a statutory reform?

If I coordinate this effort, would others be willing to assist (likely just sending an email to your local MP - template to be prepared - demanding independent regulatory oversight or an end to the single-association monopoly)? At least this would generate some momentum on the issue.

We are in south Wales. My nephew (with a very young family with one baby and another in the oven and a dog and a cat) bought their first little house. They went through the process, and found out it was previously rented out but the last tenant was evicted prior to the sell. No red flags here, or so we thought. It was a doer-upper and the best they could afford so they went ahead.

They moved in and were busy cleaning (sadly finding used needle stashes here and there) planning renovations when the Police turned up out of the blue. My nephew was advised that the house was ‘under threat’ and told to leave immediately. This was apparently due to the previous tenant having serious issues with extremely dangerous people. The officer told my nephew they are actively trying to locate this person. It has been 3 weeks since. The police are meant to be in contact every morning and evening (per their promise) to update my nephew on what is happening. They have not been in contact for 3 days. My nephew was told not to chase, only to contact the police if there were any developments.

At the moment, they are all squashed into my sister’s house. It’s hectic, cramped and everyone is pretty stressed. My nephew’s family have received no offers of support and are just paying the mortgage and bills for a house they are not allowed to live in.

There doesn’t appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel and no information forthcoming.

Can anyone please advise if there is a process for this kind of issue? Or any kind of support available such any alternative accommodation?

As the title suggests, I am really struggling with my tutor.

We are 5 weeks in and he hasn’t given me any real feedback. He isn’t very proactive albeit he has had 6 students before and 5 of them have completed their 12 + weeks so clearly has strong credentials as a tutor.

2 of the guys on my block have described him as an excellent cop but a terrible tutor.

There was a FTS and he is one of 2 people that is IPP trained on our block. FCC had asked if there was anyone free to support the pursuit. We were finishing off some paperwork but nothing that couldn’t be left and he just said I’m not risking my driving for a drink driver. There was a ARV guy that didn’t have his oppo so wasn’t being used as firearms and he had a few words to say to my tutor as he left the office.

I’ve got a fellow student on my block. Me, my tutor, my fellow student and her tutor completed a S18 and they have been signed off for this on their portfolio but when I asked my tutor about me being signed off - he said just because you’ve done one doesn’t mean you can do them independently. This is fair but then my fellow student was signed off for the same job.

My main issue is that my tutor point blank refuses to sit with me in the office for the write ups after jobs. They have a spot that they sit at and it is impossible for me to sit next to them or near as the surrounding desks are designated Sgt desks.

We went to a DA/136 job on the last set and my tutor naturally took the lead. The woman had a very thick African accent and I couldn’t hear/understand what she was saying. She made some very serious allegations towards her partner and I asked my tutor if we could sit together to do the paperwork and they gave me a summary of what the victim had said in the car back to the station and told me to complete it off the summary alone.

As we got to the station we had a flurry of grade 1s come in so when I finally got round to completing the paperwork it was 2 hours later and a lot had happened. So I asked my tutor again if we could sit together as I’d forgotten some of the detail and he just said this is what it’s like - you have to retain the info and then just sat at ‘their’ desk.

I am presuming that my tutor is de-sensitised to the DA process which I can understand but I’m not comfortable filling out DASH without the questions ever being asked and then signing my name to it.

While I know it’s probably a stupid question, got my second refresher coming up next week, I’m naturally a very sweaty person, is there anyway to stay cool, original course and first refresher were the most uncomfortable days of my life and I just want to try and make this one slightly different.

(20F) To summarise a very complicated situation, I was a victim of child-on-child sexual exploitation in 2019 and I participated in a Police investigation where they just basically asked me what happened in the year it happened over, & took my phone I had at the time.
Afterwards, I was told that I would be contacted with the next steps but never heard anything else since (99% sure it was liaised with the adults in my life but I was never spoken to regarding it again). I did access my medical records recently and found new information in terms of a MASH meeting document & that the general consensus of all agencies that I was a victim of abuse and was highly vulnerable due to my fragile health & my severe hearing loss and it was decided by agencies that I would have a high risk of exploitation again in the future.

You may be asking why am I all of a sudden digging up old ghosts now; I was contacted by the individuals who exploited me via social media around a year or two ago when I was about 17 with some horrible cryptic sexual messages. I blocked them and deleted the messages as I was scared of going through it all again.
This has made me worry about what the result of that investigation was and if they got any repercussions as I worry that they may not have due to the fact that they felt so comfortable contacting me again with such messages. I have spent the last part of two years since stressing that they may reach out again and what the repercussions it could have on my life.

So my question is that is it really worth it digging up a subject of access request (if it’s possible really?) or am I just going to waste everyone’s time?

Im a Senior Lifeguard at a swimming pool and this weekend one of our Lifeguards helped arrest a no so nice man.

Is there any commendations or certificates that we can request? the lifeguard in question is young and jumped into action without question, I would have reccomended the RLSS Meritorious Action certificate but thats more for Lifesaving and Resus.

Hey All, I've recently found out that I'm pregnant. It's still very early, at around 4 weeks. I still haven't been able to speak to a doctor yet due to the bank holiday weekend.

I'm due to return to work after some annual, and I'm a bit worried about telling anyone. Obviously I'd want to wait until 12 weeks to tell anyone, but I'm conscious that I a) need support with my personal risk management but b) may need support and time off should anything go wrong

I'm currently a DC on a CID team, work a mix of earlies, lates and nights. Although my public facing is much more limited than response, I still am out and about a fair bit.

I just wanted to see how anyone else has managed the balance of telling people early, and how you've kept it from your team despite restrictions? I was also wondering what restrictions people have experienced? Have you had your shift pattern changed?

Also I'm probably jumping the gun here but I just can't wrap my head around the whole maternity pay thing- does anyone have any sort of calculator or advice that could help with this? For context I'm top whack

If you google his name previous convictions come up.. he seems to have an excuse for each of them. I'm fully aware more can be in the system/more details hence why I've done it..
Anyway with what I've typed it's flagged up as urgent and they've emailed to say they're sending someone to do a welfare check. Now I'm concerned that obviously he lives there he will be fully aware of this and potentially drive him to isolate her further, because she's clearly not going to say anything when he's present (thought it would be unlikely anyway) just wanted her to have all the information available to be able to make her fully aware of what he's like.
Is there not a way they can do this without going to their house? Away from him?

I'm worried and full of regret, i asked for it to be confidential that I've done it as I know she will cut contact, but now I'm worried she will do that to everyone she knows, and I'm more worried that he will retaliate and hurt her

Suspect arrested for say Robbery. Phone seized from suspect. The phone is powered on and unlocked.

Instead of going through proper channels and following correct procedure to extract a phone download report, officers do quick review whilst suspect custody i.e. go through message/photos/ calls/ voice notes etc. and find evidence of completely unrelated offence, say Fraud. Suspect further arrested for Fraud and the evidence is put to them in interview.

No formal paperwork completed, phone was not given to anyone that is qualified to handle and extract phone download. Suspect bailed for phone and digital enquiries.

Would the evidence gathered be inadmissible especially from the phone as correct procedures were not initially followed.

Hi all, looking for some Regs expertise as my Fed rep and the PFEW website are being a bit vague.

- Back in June, I was warned for Bank Holiday (BH) aid this coming Monday.

- Today (less than 7 days’ notice), I was dewarned as the event was cancelled.

- The duty system defaults BHs to a 6-hour tour (1200–1800).

- I know under Regulations I can choose to work the day rather than take the BH rest day.

What shift length am I actually entitled to work?

The PFEW site mentions legal advice stating there's no entitlement to work a "full tour," but it conflicts with guidance on "anticipated duty length."

The original aid warning stated the shift was expected to be longer than 8 hours from deployment (excluding travel).

I was assigned as the aid driver. Accounting for vehicle collection, 4 pickups/drop-offs, and return travel, the actual duty time would easily hit 12–14 hours (minimum 12 hours based purely on driving + 8 hrs on deployment). I've done this exact event/timings before, and it usually hits a 13-14 hour day.

Am I entitled to work my originally anticipated shift length (12+ hours), the 8-hour aid minimum, or am I capped at the 6-hour default showing on the duty system?

A question for those of you who are familiar with TVP leave’s policy for police officers. When your flight is cancelled at the last minute, what are the options available to you when you are not able to show up to work? We were coming back from holiday yesterday but got stranded in Berlin due to bad weather. (All uk flights were cancelled )

The sgt mentioned needing to book annual leave but these are circumstances beyond someone’s control.

What do you think?

So I was reading up on penalty points, and the situation is a little complicated;

- 3 years = The time most penalty points become "spent" (e.g. for speeding fines etc)

- 4 years = The time when penalty points expire (always found it weird there is an extra year for this?)

- 5 years = The amount of time a lot of insurers seem to ask you to declare any driving infractions.

Now here's my question;

If an offence has already expired after 4 years, does it disappear from the system, and there is no way for insurers to check this?

Is this a similar situation to a few years back, when a lot of insurers got into trouble for asking people to declare speeding awareness courses, even though they weren't allowed to do this?

Just watched the Sky News documentary on armed police, super interesting and incredibly difficult job to perform. Just curious about something - armed police give first aid following incident response and perform triage, but say if the suspect involved in a multi-victim attack was seriously injured (by themselves or by armed police) would they be prioritised in triage over a victim of the incident who was also seriously (but less seriously) injured?

Raises interesting questions from a moral perspective but again speaks to the incredibly difficult circumstances they’re operating under

Here is a question that is not so much to do with Policing, but has a significant overlap.

I have noticed lately that a high amount of pickpockets across London are released on scene as the victims are living abroad. I understand that this is because the victim may not be able to attend court in the UK, however, why can't court appearances for witnesses/victims be able to be done via video link in these circumstances? It just encourages thieves to target tourists.

It seems there's a loophole here that really needs to be fixed.
