RFK Jr. is cutting funding to various hospice-care facilities because patients are allegedly “living too long”. What he probably meant is that facilities are (allegedly) lying about patient conditions to game the system. But one should offer direct evidence of such lies, because living long by itself is not sufficient evidence. Either way, his statement was very ham-handed (or worm-handed).

Donald Trump has been criticised for mocking a disabled New York Times reporter.

Decades of Fox News propaganda is like the old story about the frog in the pot. Drop a frog into boiling water and it jumps straight back out. Put it in cool water and raise the temperature one degree at a time and it never finds a single moment worth jumping over. Nobody tuning in back in 1996 signed up for where this eventually took us.

In 1970, Roger Ailes worked on a plan inside the Nixon White House titled "A Plan for Putting the GOP on TV News." The goal was to bypass network news and pipe friendly coverage straight to local stations. The memo said the quiet part out loud: "With television you just sit-watch-listen. The thinking is done for you."

Nixon fell anyway. Ailes spent the next 26 years making sure it wouldn't happen twice. Fox News launched in 1996.

Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts by 12 ordinary New Yorkers who sat in a courtroom, heard weeks of testimony, saw the documents, and reached a unanimous verdict. His side helped pick the jury. His lawyers were there the whole time. His appeals are intact. Nothing about that is unusual except who the defendant was.

If your first instinct was that the jury must have been rigged instead of that the evidence must have been heavy, that instinct didn't come from nowhere. Somebody built a machine to put it there, and he told us in writing why.

Ailes died in 2017. The machine didn't.
