Murdered By Words 🩸 The World’s Richest Man Has A Problem With Food Security

u/Shido_Ohtori 26d ago
Conservatism -- by definition -- is "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change".
The sole value of conservatism is respect for and obedience to [one's perception of] traditionally established hierarchy, and hierarchy dictates that those on top (in-groups) are rightfully idolized and receive privileges, credibility, and resources, while those on the bottom (out-groups) are demonized/dehumanized and/or bound by restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources.
To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those [they perceive to be] on top [of social hierarchy] to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom. The first greatest injustice is for those on the bottom to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top.
Conservatives absolutely need an underclass [for society] to demonize and dehumanize in order to maintain [their] hierarchy, and every single one of their policies and rhetoric work to do exactly that. Unless the accusation is one of disrespecting hierarchy, every right-wing accusation is a confession -- every. single. one; always! -- as it is never the act itself that upsets them, but rather, the social standing of the person doing the act, as said act is a privilege meant for those on top of [their perceived] hierarchy (See also: pedophilia - Trump and the Catholic church versus LGBTQ+ and drag queens; protests - January 6th vs. BLM and No Kings; parental rights - anti-LGBTQ+ vs pro-LGBTQ+; indoctrination - religion vs. education).
Those who believe all people are people see hypocrisy, while those who believe some people are "more/less" people than others see hierarchy. Hypocrisy implies a sense of equality/parity, as the accusation of such is that someone is violating a universal or common standard. Hierarchy directly states that there is no equality/parity, that different social strata have different standards, that the only universal standard concerning hierarchy is that those on top are allowed privileges which are denied to those on the bottom, and that the bottom are held to standards which the top are exempt from.
"Know your place" is their mantra.

Lmao it’s the same as when Tucker was in awe of a Russian supermarket, when he’s just that out of touch.
10
u/sadpandawanda 26d ago
The crazy part is that it wasn't a real "Russian" grocery store. I had a Russian colleague point that out. Apparently it was part of a chain that is actually French but has locations in Russia - and it's actually a fairly high-end chain. Tucker's order came to about $105 in American dollars, and the average Russian salary, roughly, is around $1,200 monthly. So not something your average Russian will afford.

What exactly is he saying is ironic?
16
u/Lonely-Tennis2171 26d ago
Two possible answers;
99% chance he thinks a publicly owned store charging any amount of money for groceries is ironic. This is, of course, not irony and completely in line with what was always the stated plan for these stores.
1% chance he’s referring to the store cards mentioned in that same announcement. MAGA is claiming this is ironic since Mamdani is against voter ID, but the store cards are not ID cards so the comparison is nonsense.

If people aren't worried about food, shelter, healthcare, and childcare they are less likely to work a slave-ish amount of hours for a pittance. Of course billionaires are against that.
2
u/Concurrency_Bugs 26d ago
Honestly, I'm all for capitalism for "comfort" stuff, like a bigger house, vehicles, etc. But stuff you need to survive should be socialized. Low income housing/rentals for people starting their careers, guaranteed food, base healthcare.
Many people might not like the political streamer Destiny, but he said it best when he said the low and middle class workers are the ones that allow rich people like Elon to keep getting rich, and should be supported.

The city owned grocery store is a bad idea. It’s going to run other grocers out of business then it’s not going to be able to procure food because producers would rather sell else where. Once procurement slows, food shortages happen, then once that happens people will move out of NY. Once that happens tax revenues will go down putting further strain on the municipal & state governments.
This has never worked in history. I do not understand the willingness to continue to try the same idiotic scheme over and over again. It ends the same every time. Bread lines are a story as old as Marxs in Eastern Europe. Best of luck NY.

Elon is professionally outraged by a lot of things. But I'm getting so tired of theatrics on both sides.
People are not arguing if kids should starve. Or whether kids should be bombed. They are arguing about the correct path to a resolution.
--------------------------
Okay, here is the counter argument. And I know this argument has a counter counter argument. The point isn't the validity. The point I'm trying to make is that people are not evil morons. They are looking at the problem from a different lens.
Grocery stores operate on very thin markets. If a government store can come in at provide prices way below the actual purchasing cost for products with help of taxes. That puts a huge amount of stress of private businesses. Some will likely go out of business and you lose that food support in that area. Businesses once gone, don't just come back. It actually takes a while for things to ramp up.
So now you have created a situation where the city now needs to get good at managing food. Right now this is basically handled by the market. Do you guys think the government can effectively do this? The government does an AMAZING job with construction. Do you think the government will do this efficiently? And would this ultimately save on resources? Or are you just digging a deeper hole.
Basically, do you think the government should be doing this or maybe something else with it's time/money.
The argument is opportunity costs. Is it better to just give people an allowance so they can afford to shop at the current system and then use the energy spent on trying to figure out food management on something else more productive. Maybe like parks? Maybe like youth programs? Maybe education? Drug prevention?
If you asked me, I would love to see a concentrated effort at fixing the Fentanyl crisis pretty much all across America. This has the biggest returns of investment. Not getting involved in food distribution. I would rather give people money / month than deal with all the work involved in setting this up and having it potentially fail.
And fine. You can argue against this. It's no big deal. I don't fully agree with some of these points myself. I think the situation is complex and requires balance. There is no way there isn't some corporate collusion happening and the government can help push back against that.
The point is simple though. These people don't want hungry kids. They are simply saying that this is the wrong way to go about it.

When in the history of history has a government-run grocery store ever succeeded? I'll answer that for you, never. You guys think that all of these socialist things are gonna work, even though they've been tried over and over and over and over again, and they still don't work. And you still don't get it? Somebody is gonna have to pay for those grocery stores. Because nothing is free. And\n When the rich people leave, it'll be the middle class who has to pay for all of that. And when the middle class becomes too poor or they leave the poor have to pay for it, the problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money to spend. Side note as I am speaking means truth. I am getting a warning saying name, calling inflammatory language and rhetoric will lead to a ban. Make your point politely and respectfully translation. Don't tell the truth, that's a translation to this warning. You can't tell the truth and you can't disagree with liberals. I'm only pointing out fact moderators. I am not saying anything mean to anybody. I am just saying, and asking the question, when has this ever worked? Because in the history of histories, it has never worked. So if I get a ban for this, then you prove my point. Then you just want the propaganda and not the truth

Nobody is affording anything. They're just taxing people and using subsidies to prop up their little government-run grocery store. It’s the fact that an ID is required to purchase groceries that is the irony here.
The point of the ID is to prevent fraud. Meanwhile, people oppose an ID to vote, which is designed to prevent fraud.
The control here is the ID as a mechanism to prevent fraud. Advocating for, and against, the same control is the irony.

I'm pretty far left and agree with most of the policies he's put out... but even I think this is a bad idea.
Grocery stores run on VERY thin margins. There are numerous problems with the current food infrastructure of the US and the massive monopiles that run it but this isn't going to fix any of those problems. It will just be a giant waste of tax payer money for everyone involved. .

u/ComfortableWeird6540 25d ago
People really don't understand that wishing for cheap/free groceries and actually delivering it are two entirely separate things? Just because you REALLY REALLY REALLY want a policy to succeed, doesn't mean it actually will. Generally, the government is pretty bad at running most things so the idea that they can somehow deliver on this at a reasonable cost for the taxpayers would be very surprising.
And just because you criticise a policy with good intentions, doesn't mean that you want the opposite of what the policy aims to achieve to happen. You can direct criticism towards altruistic projects if they become too wasteful, or if their actual outcomes are opposite to those they wanted.
