The bill would provide a $3,000 direct payment to every person in households making $150,000 or less during its first year, which equals $12,000 for a family of four.

Tax their stocks?

I think this is a bullshit post. I’m not saying not to tax them but their combined is like 7-8 trillion so how does a 5% tax generate 4.4 trillion?

In its first year, the bill would provide a $3,000 direct payment to every man, woman and child in a household making $150,000 or less — $12,000 for a family of four — and use the estimated $4.4 trillion in revenue raised over the next decade to address the most pressing crises facing working families.

Yeah and the lotteries were supposed to be for infrastructure and schools too.

Which leaves nothing to pay down debt, and they will spend like there is no tomorrow. Which they have proved they can do.

Ok? Let them spend their money and stimulate the economy. The rich are just hoarding right now and that's a giant problem.

Hoarding money? They are not Scrooge McDuck.

Rich people's money is always in equities. Elon Musk's money is almost entirely in Tesla and SpaceX. If they disappear tomorrow, would that put money in your pocket?

Very naive understanding of economics you have there. Its always "the money is in assets it's not realized", until they need to spit out billions because they are forced to buy Twitter at an agreed upon price. Weird that suddenly then money is able to get quickly liquidated. Honestly the "money is in stocks" has always been a stupid argument. They can liquidate their assets enough to pay their fair share of taxes.

It always baffles me when people defend billionaires by saying you can't tax them more because their wealth is just stocks. How do you think they finance their lifestyle? They use their equity as collateral to borrow money against and even sell shares from time to time.

1

u/FraserValleyGuy77 24d ago

Enough about that borrowed money nonsense. Loans have to be paid back

2

u/Dumeck 24d ago

See that's nonsense, if that was truly the case why are they living in 9 digit cost mansions, why do they often have fleets of yachts, why do they have private jets? Notice anytime they need a frivalous over the top luxury the money is there. But whenever it's discussion about them getting taxed more suddenly the money is "tied up in stocks" they have loans, they actually have little equity, they are only rich when you factor in assets. It's all nonsense.

You are missing the point. They already use their "only equity" wealth to get cash to spend, it being tied up in stocks is not an excuse for not being able to pay taxes. The argument that they couldn't afford paying more because it's not liquid is nonsense.

So let’s tax all loans.

Yes that is indeed how economy works. You spend money. I know basic economics is a difficult subject for someone with a brain the size of a peanut, but people having money to spend is kind of how the whole thing works

1

u/Relevant_Touch5459 24d ago

It's another type of inflation and won't solve anything.

Please just touch an economics book. You'll absorb more information by osmosis than you currently have
