Sadly, I don't think you're wrong. I'm middle-aged and most certainly will be dead and buried before the U.S. even begins to recover from the mess this administration will leave behind, and that's only if every subsequent administration fully commits to it. I'm not even sure I'll survive long enough to see Washington D.C. restored.
Well, in some cases it may never change back -- the rest of the world understands that millions of Ameicans wanted this for themselves and for everyone else, and many millions couldn't be bothered to vote when they had a chance to improve themsleves or others.
Sometimes nations just…fall. We’ve had it pumped into us since birth that what we’ve seen elsewhere in modern day and all throughout history could just magically never happen here. But that’s never been true.
No, America will never be "leader of the free world" again. Everyone can see how ridiculous a concept that was now, and that you can never be trusted not to re-elect a fascist every 4 years.
Yeah, the circumstances that even made us a global superpower don’t even exist anymore and haven’t for decades already. We’ve been coasting on bravado and vibes.
Yeah. Having the world find out that our financial sector has been looting that huge defense budget so long that we're a paper tiger has pretty much killed the idea of America as the world police at this point. We can't even keep our soldiers fed on a boat, let alone police a 30 mile stretch of water.
It's crazy that we were born at the right time to watch the fall of the American empire.
It really is. We’re experiencing something that will be in the history lessons of children abroad in a hundred years and beyond. A lesson in how something started off as a great experiment and how the worst aspects of human nature squandered it.
And the thing is that it's coming for every other country too. It's capitalists doing this to us, and they're getting too big to deal with for individual countries. America is just a little further along the curve than some of our former allies, but they're all walking the same path as us, even the Nordic countries that social democrats love to lionize.
Turns out capitalism was our great filter all along, and it doesn't seem like we're going to be able to counteract the inertia of the system before it kills our civilization.
Human nature is the great filter. Some of us are born with less empathy and more narcissism than others. Those types will always dominate the rest who are cooperative, peaceful, and agreeable, exploiting them and hoarding the wealth generated from their toil, until all human capital is exhausted.
This is true. It's gonna take forever for the US to recover from this backside. Without major government reform, it's just gonna be a matter of time until some other crime lord takes over.
Humpty dumpty is never getting put back together again. The damage Trump 2.0 has done in two years is more than 20 years of feckless democratic handwringing can put right.
Capital is too entrenched, and the incentives of the capital class too perverse, to allow national democrats to do 1/100th of what will be necessary to right the ship. The fact that more democrats are bitching about Hasan Piker than the genocide in Gaza should tell you everything you need to know about where this is all headed.
We are watching the fall of the American empire right now, and the only thing voting is going to determine at this point is how soft the landing is going to be when the collapse inevitably comes to pass.
