I'll never forget the Minab school. I'll also never forget that it doesn't even register anymore with most Americans. Regardless of whether they are blue, red or neither. How is that not the most horrific thing about it. Nope their soldiers and their oil prices.
yeah while America will likely recover from a lot of this, it's also very clear a corner has been turned here. the previous world order and way of looking at things is gone forever. the privilege the US enjoyed is gone for good
I actually don't think it's likely America recovers from a lot of this at all. A lot of Americans STILL don't even think anything is wrong, or only think Trump has gone a 'little too far' by starting another war.
Beyond reversing the specific policies and changes that Trump and co have made (which isnt even a given, and will take years if not decades), there has been irreversible damage to the US as a global power, and to the fundamental institutions and beliefs that underpinned a lot of the admiral American qualities.
And that's if competent people can get elected continuously as soon as possible, for the foreseeable future. Even if the left makes gains in the midterms, and takes the White House in the next presidential election, this isn't over. They could very well lose in 2032.
And the left doesn't even seem to have a plan. AIPAC is still hugely influential on both sides of the political spectrum, the Democrats are still committing the same old self-inflicted mistakes, corporate influence hasn't been curbed one bit, and I'm not sure there are any popular Democratic candidates that have the influence to resolve any of those problems.
Literally the only bright spot in American politics these days is Mamdani, and though being mayor of NYC isn't a joke, I'm not sure what else he can do to more broadly steer the US in the right direction.
We have cannibalized our allies (and gained most of our "allies" via coercion, sanctions, and CIA regime change operations) since we've stepped out of isolation in WWI. This isn't a Trump problem, it's a military industrial complex and finance empire problem.
I think rebuilding, if it happens (no sure thing), will not consist of restoring the pre-Trump status quo. There will really need to be a complete rethink about how the US relates to the rest of the world.
