Im sure if a dem senator disappeared for months the GOP would be fine with it

It would depend on whether the GOP thought them disappearing meant they could pick up a seat or not. Fact is Mitch being out is mostly a fuck you to his own constituents. It is probably neutral/good for democrats because republicans have lost a vote. And his seat is likely to be filled by a republican anyway.

Not defending either case but it happened not that long ago with Dianne Feinstein. Very similar situation. Feels like more of a US government systemic problem than a red or blue team issue.

Yea thats true, the point is, if someone cant do their job, they need to give up their role.

And Democrats pushed Feinstein to resign entirely. She just refused.
