Community Events Protest against the genocide in Gaze took place in Prague today

The list of children murdered by Izrael in Gaza - spanned across the whole Malostranské náměstí. The Czech Republic is the fifth largest exporter of weapons and ammunition for the genocide - a shame for every Czech that still has a conscience.

Question Making Friends/Solo Experiences

Upvotes

Hello! I’m M20 and staying in Prague for a few days. I’ve seen much contradicting advice online regarding making friends here, as some people describe residents as somewhat standoffish while others say they’re really nice. I’m a little on the shyer side (and only capable of a few Czech phrases), but sometimes I can get some social momentum and charm going. What are the chances I’ll find a crowd to slip into?

I’m also wondering HOW I should find new friends my age to go out and do things with around the city? If that seems unrealistic, what kind of things could anyone recommend me to do as a solo traveler?

Recommendations One-day Prague trip for a gamer/history lover. Any recommendations?

Hi everyone.
I’m taking a friend to Prague for a daytrip. He loves video games and history, and I’ve already marked the Army Museum Žižkov.

Any other recommendations? Maybe places connected to Czech gaming/history, unusual attractions, or a cool medieval/gaming-themed restaurant or pub?

Would love any suggestions! 🎮⚔️🇨🇿

Question Job hunting as a parent??

Hey everyone,

My question is mostly towards parents who decided to return to work once their children were in preschool (i.e. stay at home up until this point) how was the job search process and whether you did find a job??

I had two kids 2 years apart and since last year have been applying for positions now that my oldest whose autistic is in preschool giving me time I can allocate to a job.

However due to the 6 year gap since my last job, I just keep receiving rejections, especially now in the age of AI where if I apply Friday night I receive an automatic rejection on Saturday at 11pm so a human never sees my application.

I feel very lost and really do want to start work, has anyone been in a similar position how did you get out of it??

Looking for any tips in general!

Recommendations Getting a driver's license

Hello! I'm thinking of getting my driver's license (for the first time, not getting one after having the one from my country) and would like to hear if anyone has any recommendations for driving schools. All the posts I've seen here were either old or for people who are already drivers but didn't have a permit for CZ.

I'm looking for a school that offers classes in English and, if possible, that does intensive sessions (especially for the practical part). I live in Prague, but would be willing to go somewhere else if they offer intensive courses and it's connected by public transport.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions and/or advice

Recommendations Kulervoucí kebab

Čus, může mi někdo doporučit nějaký kvalitnějš kebab co nebyl dva měsíce zmražený než ho Turek rozpekl a není napuštěný chemikáliema víc jak Bonnie Blue a zároveň se z toho člověk nezesere? Dík!

Jen to radši specifikuji: Jen v Praze, lokací blízko nám. Míru nebo dostupný dovoz přes Foodora/Wolt/Bolt. Až tak moc ten kebab nechci abych si kvůli němu jezdil hodinu xd díky

Question GAME studies at Charles Uni

Hello! (Posting in this sub because i couldn't find one dedicated specifically to the uni)

I'm looking to apply to the GAME studies programme at Charles Uni. It's a field I've been interested in forever, and I found the structure to be exactly what I'm looking for. However, I wanted to ask about how the programme is? How is the faculty? I'm an international student, and programmes like this simply do not exist in my country so I would love to study this, but it's still a pretty expensive venture. Would it be worth it to spend so much in the first place?

Any leads would be appreciated! Thank you!

Question Where can I get a tetanus shot as a walk in?

Hello I recently cut my finger on some dirty metal yesterday on accident and was wondering what’s the quickest way for a tourist to get an updated tetanus shot and pay out of pocket? My last one was Nov 2016 so I’m still within the ten years but I would feel a lot better getting a booster. Thank you!

Discussion Solo in Prague….looking for fellow wanderers.

Just arrived in Prague and travelling solo. If you’re also solo and want to explore, grab food, get lost somewhere, or pretend we know where we’re going, hit me up.

Or if you’re a local and wouldn’t mind a coffee + unnecessarily serious discussions about politics, life, and other wonderfully boring topics… even better.

No agenda, just good company. 🇨🇿

Recommendations Solo in Prague: What Are the Must-Do Experiences Before I Leave?

Hi, I'll be traveling solo in Prague for the next few days and will be staying near the Old Town area. I'd love to make the most of my visit before heading back home. I'm especially fond of good beer and local breweries, but I'm also interested in must-see attractions, unique experiences, great food spots, and anything that captures the true spirit of the city. What would you recommend as absolute must-do activities during my stay?

Question Need help with understanding CTU admission process

Hi guys, I'm from India currently in grade 12 (PCM), and I've been considering CTU to start my higher education in europe, especially due to their english taught bachelor's, fairly lower tuition and cost of living.

I have looked at the admissions conditions page on the website, but I still have some doubts which i hoped I could get cleared here-

(I'm aiming to get into the Faculty of Mechanical engineering, english course ofc)

1) on the website they mention that international students take the SCIO maths in english test, so is that like an entrance test or is it just to check "eligibility"? and then the actual test is the "FME entrance test" or something like that which I saw on the website (they had a sample test of I think 12 questions)? I couldn't understand which of these tests do I give and whats the purpose, because somewhere i read that it's just to check eligibility, not guarantee admission. And will there be an interview?

2) this is related to the previous question and im sorry if this sounds obvious, I just don't want to take any chances. And that's how does the University evaluate my application? Like what's the criteria on which they decide that I deserve an admission? Is it my percentile in the SCIO test, my grade 12th marks /predicted marks, or my overall academic history?

Thanks in advance for answering, but expect me to ask more questions from you 😅

Question Are there any spicy good challenges in Prague?

My boyfriend and I are huge spicy food enthusiasts, and we’re looking for something genuinely painful lol. We’ve tried a bunch of really spicy foods and sauces before, but we really want to try an actual spicy challenge and see how far we can push our tolerance. Does anyone know of a restaurant in Prague that does anything like that? Or maybe somewhere that has an insanely spicy dish that’s basically a challenge on its own? Thanks!

Recommendations Czech police say my missing phone is “lost,” but I suspect it was stolen from my pocket — what can I do for insurance?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice about a situation with my phone insurance in Czechia.

Yesterday I was in Karlovy Vary. At around 9:30 AM I checked my phone and then put it into the back pocket of my jeans. Later, around 6:00 PM, when I checked my pocket, the phone was gone.

I never knowingly left the phone somewhere or forgot it on a table, etc. Because it disappeared from my pocket while I was out, I suspect that someone may have taken it from my pocket. However, when I went to the Czech police, they told me that because I didn’t actually see anyone taking it, they consider it a “lost phone” rather than theft.

The problem is that I have T-Mobile phone insurance ( L package), and as I understand it, theft/pickpocketing is covered but simply losing the phone is not.

I’m not trying to claim that I saw someone steal it because I didn’t. I just want the police report to accurately state that the phone disappeared from my pocket and that I suspect possible pickpocketing.

Has anyone in Czechia had a similar experience?

Can I ask the police to register it as a suspected theft/pickpocketing even though I didn’t see the person taking it? And has anyone successfully made a T-Mobile/Cardif insurance claim in a similar situation?

Any advice would be appreciated.
