I left around 5 years ago and staffing problems was still a major issue there, like the other commenter suggests. From what I remember, shifts were: Early 7-12:30 Main 7:45-17:30 All day 7:45-19:30 Late 12:30-21:00

You'd do a mix of these. Would have every other weekend off, usually 3 days, but that would mean you'd end up working like 8 or 9 days in a row depending on when your other day off was.

So the prison isn’t run between 2100 and 0700?

They are randomised so it’s pretty hard to explain the typical pattern. You work every other weekend.
It’s tough to have a social life outside the place so your closest friends end up working there. + a week of nights every 8 weeks when I was there. Not sure if it’s become more frequent or less as staffing was an issue before I left.

How about break times? Are they observed?

Yeah, lock up happens you get an hour at lunch but by the time you've got out the prison you've lost 15 mins. Some shifts see you work over lunch but usually means you've worked the early so you're off home as soon as staff have returned. I left like 7 years ago though so loads may have changed but from my buddies that are still there its the same shit.

+ if you're late back from break you will be grilled as you're putting your wing at risk in various ways.
